JessiMommy Posted February 2, 2005 #1 Share Posted February 2, 2005 Just returned from our Carnival cruise where we did the Stingray & snorkling tour with Soto's. Can't say enough wonderful things about them. Do not hesitate to book with them. We just got a disk full of pictures from them that they took of our family & they are great. If you need more info do not hesitate to ask me...

JessiMommy Posted February 3, 2005 Author #3 Share Posted February 3, 2005 How much were the pictures etc that they offered? We will be taking this tour in just a couple of weeks! thanks! Kristina I think it depends on how many pictures they take of your group and we were a large group. I think there were 12 pictures of us and we paid $60 for the disk that we could print off as many as we wanted from. We split the cost among the couples so it was only $20 a piece. They also included some generic shots of just the sting rays swimmimg underwater. It was very nice. You may want to bring along your own underwater camera as well. It was a great trip & they are great people, have fun!
LKitt82566 Posted February 7, 2005 #4 Share Posted February 7, 2005 We were wondering about taking 18 month and 3 year with 6 adults to take turns watching them on the boat. Did you have any experiences with children on your boat? Wondering about all the screams from the water with people? I am little afraid this might scare our 3 year that she wouldn't get in the water at other beaches. Any ideas please share. Linda

The youngest I remember in the water was 7, but there was at least one on board that was younger.

Tamiblonde Posted February 7, 2005 #8 Share Posted February 7, 2005 Do they meet you at the dock or do you have to get a taxi somewhere?
zydecocruiser Posted February 8, 2005 #9 Share Posted February 8, 2005 Do they meet you at the dock or do you have to get a taxi somewhere? Option C. You walk about 100 yds to the right, past HRC, a little past the Harley store, to a parking lot and they pick you up there and take you to the boat. You can see the parking lot (and other landmarks) in a picture I posted in this thread: http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=132122

LKitt82566 Posted February 9, 2005 #11 Share Posted February 9, 2005 Where you at the stingray city in the picture you posted for me with the children sitting on the backk? Did Soto's take you to a different location for snorkling and that is the picture from that location? Do you have more pictures I could view of the Cayman trip? The picture is of the back of Soto's boat anchored at the sandbar. It was rough that day. All of the ship Stingray tours canceled (they are always the first to cancel, but it was perfectly safe - just had bumps). The snorkel locations are nearby, but a different location. Once again, too many pictures... zydecocruiser's Album:Conquest 11/7/04 Zydeco Cruise Click on the link above to view the 118 pictures in this album. Cindyrella Posted February 9, 2005 #13 Share Posted February 9, 2005 zydeco, How do you take such good underwater pictures? zydecocruiser Posted February 10, 2005 #14 Share Posted February 10, 2005 zydeco, How do you take such good underwater pictures? I always use an disposable underwater camera and the fish move so fast I end up just getting part of a tail or something. Thank you. Same camera above and below the water. I take lots of pictures and usually some come out good. If the fish think you have fish food (or if you really do), they will swarm you and follow you around forever (or until someone else fools them). I use a discontinued Canon S230 digital with waterproof case. It is about 3.2 megapixels but only a 2x optical zoom. I usually post process underwater photos for color adjustment with Adobe Photoshop Elements (let it auto-fix). If I actually knew what I was doing, they would be better. The current lineup is here: http://consumer.usa.canon.com/ir/co...fcategoryid=113 Compatible cases: http://consumer.usa.canon.com/ir/co...nderwater_photo {amazon and many other places have better prices and Canon isn't the only manufacturer to offer such products.} You can also download a free limited version of Photoshop that will probably do about the same as what I do. zydecocruiser Posted February 10, 2005 #15 Share Posted February 10, 2005 Guess it's been a while since I checked the pictures. Only the Sergent Majors are the ones that really flock for food. There are zillions of those. The others were there the have their pictures taken.

hlsess Posted February 12, 2005 #19 Share Posted February 12, 2005 Zydeco again- just looked at some Canon digitals and the Canon s410 has some great reviews for a basic good camera- can't find anything about a waterproof case. also, what size memory card do I buy? zydecocruiser Posted February 12, 2005 #20 Share Posted February 12, 2005 Thank you. I don't keep up with the available models, but mine (s230 - a older digital elph model) only has a 2x optical zoom which is one of the weak points. 3x (like the s410 would be better). Waterproof case is option. For the S410, case model is WP-DC800. Not real cheap, but disposible underwater cameras AND processing add up. With a digital you can take lots of pictures, see what you get, and delete the ones you don't like. Don't underestimate the ability of software to fix what you think might be a bad photo. For underwater pics, take the camera white balance off of automatic and select bright sun or cloudy. Check the gasket on the case before each use and apply the silicon grease lightly (I feel the gasket for an nicks or grit when rubbing a little grease around it) and antifog to the lens port on the case. Also I put the camera in the case and shut it in the air conditioned cabin before going out in warm humid air. Greatly reduces chances of fogging up. I like 512mb cards. I bring my laptop on trips and 512mb fits on a CD. These cost under $50 these days. You might want to shop for best price, but here is an example: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B0001G6U5M/qid=1108231500/sr=8-1/ref=pd_bbs_1/002-3892789-6744012?v=glance&s=electronics&n=507846 http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B000099SGU/ref=pd_dpacc_2/002-3892789-6744012?v=glance&s=electronics&n=507846
slineberry528 Posted February 28, 2005 #21 Share Posted February 28, 2005 Enjoyed your review and pictures. Looking for a tour in GC for Juky on the Valor. I snorkel but my mother doesn't. I guess they were some that didn't get in the water. Susan

You don't really snorekl at Stingray Sandbar, mostly just wade, so you might see if your mother will wear a swimsuit, just is case!
