Duty Free purchases

Recommended Posts

Is there a limit on alcohol purchased in ports, I know they'll take it off me as I return to ship and return it on last day(hopefully!). I'm not asking so i can drink on board but to bring real sherry etc home as gifts.

Sailing out of Southampton so no flights are involved.

The limit set for brining alcohol in is the amount you are permitted DUTY FREE. If you exceed that number you are required to pay duty (import tax) on it. Bring as much as you want home, just be prepared to pay for it. That being said, a lot of the customs agents are really thoughtful when it comes to being a bit over.

Thanks for that, just checked on customs & excise website -

110 litres of beer

90 litres of wine

10 litres of spirits

20 litres of fortified wine

There's no way I could buy that much!!!
