NCL Star Menus

Does anyone have the updated menus for the Star since it went to the Mexican Riviera? I am really interested in any main dining room menus and the no extra charge restaurants.

Gracias!

NCL Star 4/22/05 - anyone else cruising with us?

We were just on the Star 1/24 and had been on her in Hawaii three times. The main dining room menus are essentially unchanged. There were minor differences I noted here or there, but overall the same as Hawaii. Endless Summer is of course now a Tex-Mex restaurant instead of a Hawaiian restaurant. That and the addition of Cagney's Steakhouse are the biggest changes.

I don't think the Aqua and Versailles menus are readily available online, but when you are onboard just go to the main dining reservation area (deck 7 midship) each day and you can browse that night's menu for both main dining rooms.

Hey Two Boys Cruising - a few questions:

1) Which no fee restaurant did you like the best? Are there better nights to dine in the Main areas than others?

2) What is the deal with the private karaoke rooms - do they still have those?

3) We are thinking of trying to catch a early (11:20 am) flight out of LAX on our return date - do you think this is possible based on your disembarkation? It will be on a Saturday....

4) Since you've been on the ship a few times are there any oceanview or balcony rooms/floors/locations better than others?

Gracias in advance for your knowledge!!!!

1. For the no fee, I think we tend to prefer Versailles. Each night it serves the same basic food as Aqua, but with a different preparation and I tend to like their preparation better. Versailles is the more stately room and Aqua is more contemporary. Endless Summer is Tex-Mex and we did not try it. We ate there on the Dawn and were underwhelmed. ;) La Trattoria is half of the buffet converted to the Italian restaurant and it is not all that great. If you splurge for only one upcharge meal (and I would encourage you to do so), make it Le Bistro. The steak dinner there is superior to Cagney's and cheaper too! :) And by the way, Blue Lagoon (the 24 hour restaurant) actually has really good cooked to order food when you are in a hurry. The Won-Ton Soup and Chinese Noodles are fantastic!

2. Alas, the private karaoke rooms are gone. They were removed to enlarge the Carousel Bar so it could function as a disco since Dazzles was removed and converted to the Star Casino. They do still have karaoke there early evening most nights.

3. We docked and were cleared at 7:30 (on a Tuesday). They do allow complete walk off's from the ship first. You don't set your luggage out the night before and you have to take it all yourself and you are the first off the ship (we did not do this). We booked the bus through Shore Excursions back to LAX ($20 pp) as we usually do because I hate the cab line and process involved. For some reason, this port seemed MUCH more unorganized than most even though we were the only ship there and the whole debarkation process once you walked off was a bit of a chore. Even the process of NCL employees getting passengers organized and onto the buses was anything but smooth, and you would think with doing it every 8 days........ I get nervous about booking a flight that close in case the ship runs late (we had to wait for some passengers in Cabo and had to make up time). There is the info, if you need more let me know.

4. As with any ship, the top deck right below the pool (deck 11) gets quite a bit of noise from the deck top, and they clean it overnight all night long. ;) The decks right above and right below the restaurant floors (deck 8 and deck 5) can pick up quite a bit of noise depending on location, especially if you are directly above or below one of the kitchens. On the portion of the trip from Cabo back to LA, you generally hit really rough seas (I have sailed this itinerary three times, all rough), so the more forward you are, and the higher in the ship, the more you will feel it of course. Lower rooms in the back (like most ships) get some vibration from the engines.

Hope all that helps! When do you sail?

Hello Two Boys Cruising from the Vegan Sushi Eating Zip-lining Cruise Family!

I hope that all is well for you both and your family...

Well we were some of the odd vegan eaters on this cruise and have to say that we had some of the greatest dining experiences on the Star! We were sooo well taken care of by the food and beverage staff. Our favorite restaurant was Ginza. We had two lunches and one dinner there. We loved how the sushi chefs would all wave and say hello and goodbye to us. The staff would always have made a special menu of vegan items for us ahead of time! Great service...

Our next favorite restaurant was Aqua. We had the best service ever there.

I loved going to the Blue Lagoon for my 11:30pm stir-fry vegi-noodle dish. The staff there was so friendly and interested in our daughters diet.

I am feeling the not on a cruise pain in the gut now! Talk to you later. ss
