Balcony Doors on Princess

I am wondering about what kind of lock the balcony doors on Princess have. It seems as the doors a sliders. Is there a top lock or a key lock?

On most ship's the sliders have a "child lock" up high...it's sort of a lever that jams the door, so it can't be opened. There should also be a small lock on the handle, just like most sliding glass doors in homes have.

Yes, what other person said at least for our princess cruises. Lock way up high. The doors are very heavy and not easy to open. My linebacker 2 1/2 year old can't pull the doors open by himself.

Thanks for the info. My 3 year old is a skinny kid, but he has no problem opening the balcony doors on Carnival or HAL. Carnival had a high lock, but it was only a slider lock which he could have opened if he wanted to bother getting a chair. I loved HAL because they had a key lock so at night we could just lock the door and remove the key. Of course he figured out how to lock it and did lock us out of the cabin once.

 

With the sliders on Princess I just don't know how the locks work. Is the top lock just a slider or is there more to it than that? I've been looking for pictures, but I can't find any yet.

It was just a bulkier style for what I have for my front door. The kinda sun-dial looking thing that the little lever twists and turns to the left or right, although I thought they were more difficult than what we have at home. Your kid will be able to unlock it if he drags over a chair, but the door itself is very difficult to open.

 

Obviously, your kid is never going to be left unattended long enough for him to "finish the job" - one of you will always be with him (right?), but if you are concerned, maybe overturn the chairs that are out on your balcony when you aren't using them, so he can't just drag it over to the wall. Little cumbersome for you, but might be good practice.

Of course I'd never leave him alone in the cabin or on the balcony, but I just worry about him waking up in the middle of the night. He is an excellent sleeper and I can't even remember the last time he woke up in the middle of the night (maybe he was 5 months old?). He doesn't like the balcony to begin with and would much rather climb in my bed than wander. Still, I like to be extra safe. Since we don't have a sliding door at home there would be a learning curve there. As long as he doesn't see me open it, he could probably couldn't figure it out himself. Good idea on turning over the furniture though. Better safe than sorry. I also think I will bring a door alarm. Thanks for all your info. It's much appreciated.
