fanofcrusin104 Posted June 17, 2010 #1 Share Posted June 17, 2010 We will be going on our first cruise on the Carnival Legend in July! We understand that there is an additional charge per person if Light Sweet Crude oil prices are above a certain level. Has anyone who has traveled in the last month or so been charged this extra fee? Thanks!
Putterdude Posted June 17, 2010 #2 Share Posted June 17, 2010 No, so far the fuel surcharge has not been imposed by any cruise line. We all live in hopes that it won't happen but it could.

We all live in hopes that it won't happen but it could. A couple of UK based cruise lines in the Carnival family actually did reinstate a fuel surcharge a couple of months ago (right before oil dropped backed down). Currently oil is reasonably prices and it would be a sham IMHO if a major cruise line invoked a fuel surcharge at this time. Fuel surcharges are reasonable when fuel prices rapidly and unexpectedly escalate, but that is far from the case now. Unless oil spikes over $100 per barrel, I doubt any of the major lines will reinstate a fuel surcharge this year.
luddite Posted June 17, 2010 #5 Share Posted June 17, 2010 In about 3 weeks, they won't need to worry about the surcharge. They'll just have the pax tow a bucket from the transom and use that collected oil.
