Camp Carnival

Can someone give me an idea of what a typical Camp Carnival day is like?

I have a 7 year old and would like him to go during our cruise at least to check it out and see if he likes it.

Do they stay in that room the whole time?

Do they give you beepers or something in case they need you?

Do they have theme days where they leave and go to another deck, etc?

Is it a secure place where my child won't wander off on his own without anyone noticing? Meaning is it locked up and you need to be buzzed in?

Thanks!

In my experience they do not give beepers out in that age group. They do in the 2-5 year olds - actually a phone that doesn't work in ports though. Maybe if they weren't all checked out and you asked? Not sure if they would or not. They do have different areas around the ship for activities. They walk with the counselors and I have never had a problem with kids wandering off. There is a door that parents come to and they do leave it closed then there is a check-in/out procedure for parents. My kids have been to camp 3 times starting with the youngest group, now in the 9 year old group, and have always had a ton of fun and I felt they were safe and cared for. It is actually why we keep cruising, they have fun and we have some adult time knowing they are well cared for and are having a blast too.

Ditto. Nothing but positive to say about camp. I cruise with daughters ages 3 & 9 and they both love it. Very safe. Some nights DD9 will eat dinner with camp. It's the best of both worlds. Everyone is happy.:D

Camp Carnival has an excellent kids programme. My 6 year old son just loves it. The camp councilors definitely keep the kids busy with all sorts of activities as a previous poster has shared with us.

The Camp Carnival kids are not always restricted to the room, however. They do outdoor activities, supervised of course, as well. Also they have been known to go to the Dance bar at a time reserved for the kids.

Also, if you wish to go to the steakhouse for dinner, your kid could have dinner with the Camp Carnival kids and staff. The dinner is typical kids menu stuff.

A couple of times during the day, the Camp is closed for about an hour so that the councilors get a break.

At the end of the cruise, we usually tip the staff $50.00. I am not sure if the councilors are part of the tipping pool, but if we have to pry our son away from Camp Carnival to spend some time with us, they are certainly deserving of a little more.

Anyhow, I can only say good things about Camp Carnival.

My daughter enjoyed Camp Carnival, but did mention that a couple of the counselors were a bit rude. My daughter was walking during play time and said "excuse me" to one of the counselors. To which the counselor replied: "where are you going?" My daughter said: "I don't know" and the counselor said: "Exactly, go sit down"

Another time after their nap, the counselor told the children: "While you all slept, jimmy was bleeding" My daughter said that they made it sound like it was the kid's fault.

I know these aren't huge issues, and sometimes kids can read things differently. Just thought I would share. :)
