Cabin near elevator - Good/Bad/Ugly??

I think people are naturally nosy, its' just our nature to look. The only problem we had with our one time cabin directly adjacent to the elevator lobby was that people were always looking into our cabin. We got to the point that we opened the bathroom door before opening the cabin door, to block the view.

 

I'd never again get the cabin right off the entry to the elevator bank, but one or two doors down is just fine, especially on a larger ship.

I had a cabin that was pretty close to the aft elevator. It wasn't excessively noisy, but there was just a little more foot traffic in the vicinity in general and I could also hear the elevator bells from my cabin, although they weren't all that loud. Not enough to interfere with sleep or anything.

We have to book H/C cabins which on Princess ships are generally adjacent an elevator lobby and no we have never experienced un-due noise. You will get the occasional loud conversation but that occurs in hallways as well.

Well I guess I'll be the only one to offer the negative experience. Generally we book an interior cabin 3 doors aft of the forward elevators and we never have any trouble with noise.

 

But one time we were upgraded to a balcony where the cabin door was directly across from the elevator lobby doors coming into the corridor.

 

That cabin was a bit noisy for all the reasons the OP was concerned about. People tend to speak in their regular voices while coming out of the elevators or even stand right at your door if they are going opposite directions down the same corridor.

 

The ding and ding/ding of 9 elevators was also annoying, but we're early risers and late night casino players so it wasn't always a big deal.

 

We found that if we put one of our suitcases directly in front of the door all noises were greatly diminished.

 

It wasn't horrible, but we wouldn't book that cabin again.

One of the items that I try to accomplsh when booking a cruise is to get as close as possible to the center of the ship. Trust me with the fact that by the end of a seven day cruise you are going to be grateful.:D

 

In all the cruises I have taken very rarely has noise from he elevator areas become an issue:)
