Is there a smoking vs. non-smoking side of the ship?

Was on the TA, still in New York, but there didn't seem to be any "side" to the smoking. There was smoking all over the place. And the smoke from the casino seemed to waft up through the decks. Didn't enjoy smelling like smoke after walking near the casino and alot of the time we had to go near it to get to other venues. We tried to avoid it as much as possible but it was difficult. :(

For the most part the port side on the open decks allow smoking but not near any food venue or childrens areas.

The starboard side of the casino is smoke free as well with tables and slots. The problem is the center section that is in what is really the hallway to O'Sheehans allows smoking. As a smoker I wish it was smoke free as well to avoid the conflict with those that don't smoke. Not sure that is going to happen since it was the busiest section of the casino and the smoke free section almost empty 7X24.

:(

Boo Hoo. I'm, bummed to hear there is so much smoking everywhere.

:(

Same here !!

I gave up in January after 25 years. I was never able to understand the moaning non smokers but now I understand.

Smoking and smokers absolutely stink, I can now smell smoke a mile off.

I feel ashamed when I think of what I used to smell like. Such an anti social habit and I am surprised that big American organisations like RCI and NCL allow smoking inside on their highly expensive ships that are full of passengers, 80% (at a guess), that are non smokers.

I know the staff working in the Casinos hate it.

YUCK

I would not be surprised if the smoking policy changes when the ship is full of Americans vs. Europeans... I noticed a different acceptenece of smoking when cruising in Europe.

I think it will become clear shortly. The policy is the same but one of the details that had not yet been laid out for the crew. Lets face it they were working 18 hour days just to get the major stuff working well. The Freestyle Daily did not designate a side of the outdoor decks but did restrict smoking on open decks near food areas, kids pool areas, jogging track, and other designated non smokiing areas.

Congratulations on kicking the habit! You should be very proud of yourself! :D

I was never a smoker but my dad was. He started smoking in Vietnam and smoked for 25 years after that. I hated it. He smoked in the house and my clothes and hair always smelled like smoke. We begged him to quit, and thankfully, he did. It took him 25 years but he did, and I am so proud of him.

But anyway, yeah.....as a non-smoker and as someone who had to spend a childhood in a home with a smoker, the smell just repulses me. It makes my eyes REALLY red and itchy, and gives me a headache. So I am really bummed about the fact this beautiful new ship is allowing people to smoke in cabins (the smell will most certainly seep into surrounding rooms), and that so many other areas will be filled with smoke.

Yuck. Smokers have zero idea how gross and offensive the smell is to others. I am certain there are many considerate smokers out there, but there are also those who don't give a crap that some of us really do suffer when we have to smell their smoke. :(

I notice a LOT of smoke on the TA.

I can't really discuss the outside area (Deck 15) because I didn't spend very much time out there except of the first and last day.

My wife and I averaged about 3 hours a day in the casino. After unpacking yesterday all our clothes have to go to the dry cleaners due to the smoke.

Yes some will point out that the blue (right) side of the casino was "smoke free" and that it was usually empty. The reason is that the way the casino is laid out the middle section is where most of the games were played.

The open craps table was located near the poker tables. I played in two (2) of the daily tournaments and I couldn't believe the number of players who were smoke stacks!

The row of slot machines in the middle of casino and running towards O'Sheehans had ashtrays and there were many Europeans who just plopped down in the seats and smoked.

I believe that part of the reason the smoke in the casino was so bad was due to two things:

(1) the weather was so crappy that the smokers didn't/couldn't go outside so they just congragated around the nearest ashtrays

(2) the large number of European passengers apparently like to smoke.

Maybe that's why my wife told me that this being on the Epic felt like a real casino - due to the reeking smoke!
