Avoid this taxi driver in Barbados...

He was a mean old man, sour and unfriendly.

He may not be the only one :-)

Last year we had lunch at one of the hotels on the south coast and were short on time so asked the staff if they were able to book us a taxi back to the port. It turned up in due course but the driver appeared to be having a bad day. He insisted he was going to take us to the airport, not the port, and was unhappy when we pointed out that wouldn't be much help as we were sailing out of the island.

He, reluctantly, agree to drive to the port but showed his displeasure by cranking up the radio to painful levels, easily rivaling that of the local buses. The radio was tuned to an equally grumpy Christian radio station where the presenter was urging listeners to pray for Mrs So&So who had fallen down the stairs and was now in a coma. If only she'd not missed church twice last month, he said, then God would not have allowed this to happen.

He went on in this manner for the entire journey, with the driver nodding in agreement the whole time. Who knew God was so vengeful as to allow such a misfortune just for missing two church services?

When we finally got to the port, about 20 minutes later, the driver screeched to a halt at the gates and refused to drive any further saying the law didn't allow him to. Clearly none of the drivers who had ever taken us there before had heard of this as we've normally been dropped at the main building.

We got out of the cab and walked the final few minutes to the ship wondering if the driver was always in this mood.

Antguia, appears to have alot of trouble with taxi drivers. First, the students some time ago, and the guide books mention possible problems, but none of the guide books indicate any other problems with taxis on any of the other islands. What is the bus system like. Thank you, John:D
