I'm going on my first Carnival cruise on the Triumph this August. I dont want to bring loads of cash onboard and when I cruised RCL you could get cash at the casino cage and put it on your room tab. Does Carnival allow this? RCL charged a 3% fee does anyone know Carnivals? Thank You.

You can get a cash advance from any slot machine - just insert your card, tell the machine to transfer $x from your onboard account into your casino bank, and then cash out.

Take your ticket to the cashier, and they will give you the money with no fees charged (it looks just like any other slot machine winnings). It also doesn't show on your credit card as a cash advance, so no cash advance fees from your credit card company.

We did this for most of our cash needs on our last cruise, and it worked very well. It's a lot easier than it sounds.

I'm fairly sure Carnival DOES charge 3% just like RCCL (NCL does not). Its possible that if you win in the casino and 'give the money back' same day, it never hits your Onboard account, I don't know. I just know they do say they charge 3%.

Carnival only charges 3% for a cash advance transaction at the casino cage or the pursers desk.

What the PP said is true except when you download cash to your players bank from your S&S account there isn't the 3% charge but you don't get a ticket from the machine (at least not on the 11 ships that I've been on) you just take your S&S card to the Casino cage and ask them to cash it out.

And don't forget if you are playing slots and have downloaded credits into the machine to UPLOAD them when you are finished playing. I've seen many machines with credits still on them and anyone can put there card in and claim those credits.

Why would you get money from the casino and put it on your room tab:confused:

My experience and comments were specifically regarding the table games. OP was asking about slots, my mistake.

Actually the op was just asking about getting money from the casino cashier and puttng it on her room tab......

So you don't have to carry a bunch of cash onto the cruise ship, or bring traveler's checks or pay a high ATM fee.

Rather than bringing cash to spend in port, on our last cruise we just used the slot machine like a free ATM. On the last day, when we wanted extra money to tip the dining room staff and room steward, we went to the slot machines, pulled cash off of our S&S account, and cashed out. No charge when we cashed out our ticket.

When we got home, we used the money we had saved for the trip to pay off the credit card that we used to secure our S&S, so no interest charges accrued. Plus we got a bunch of reward points from the credit card company.

Carnival will charge you if you walk up to the cage and ask for a cash advance off of your S&S.

They do not charge you if you transfer funds from your S&S to your electronic casino account via a slot machine.

THANKS! I thought so, but was then too lazy to scroll up. So, I think the question's answered: Table/cage is 3%. Slots is free. Given the fact that the slots pay out something like 85%, I'm not surprised they don't charge you a fee there.

I avoid carrying large amounts of cash anywhere - cruise ship or home. Once stolen it is gone for good. I'd rather just carry what I need and get more when necessary.

To each his own, though.

  • 2 weeks later...

So, this seems logical except for one question:

If I have a balance (what I've spent) on my S&S card, will my winnings (i.e., money I added at the slot machine) still be available to me, or will it just reduce the balance? (Never tried this so want to make sure I understand)

Thanks!

As far as table games go, as soon as you get the money (and pay the 3% fee), its yours. If you want to get $500 in the casino and have $515 applied to your Sail and Sign account, and then have that $515 charged to your credit card, you can do that. This will NOT show up on your credit card as a cash advance. It will look as if you spent the money in the gift shop or something. Again, Carnival will NOT say 'hey you, give me that cash to pay off your S&S account', even if you won in the casino.

Your casino and S&S acounts are 2 different accounts......you will need to cash out your casino account and pay it towards you S&S account.
