Spiritual Questions

Recommended Posts

These questions concern themselves with the Silversea Silver Spirit.

1. Plugs. How many, what type, what voltage, what amperage are provided in the Silver Suite?

2. Restaurants. What time does each restaurant open and how long does it continue it's service?

3. What menu's are available in advance for each one of the restaurants on the Silver Spirit?

4. Is it possible to make an advance reservation for each one of the restaurants, and, if so, how far in advance can these reservations be made and who should they be made through?

5. What is the applicability for on board credit? Eg., can it be used for Silversea excursions, restaurants, boutique, casino, or premiere wines?

6. Explain the illumination provided at the bedside and within the suite. What is the wattage and voltage? Do they use incandescent or fluorescent?

7. Do the showers have full flow water capacity so that one could take a proper shower?

Thank you in advance.

These responses are not specific to Spirit, but many of them will apply. I hope they help.

1. Plugs. Several, US and European, both 110V and 220V.

2. Restaurants. Times vary according to itinerary, but in the evening you can expect the main Restaurant – the only one you don’t need to book – to open at 7 p.m. with last orders at 9.30 p.m.

3. Menus for the following day’s Restaurant lunch and dinner are placed in your suite each evening. The Maitre d’ of each venue will be happy to show you the full range of menus, just ask. Don’t forget you can go off-menu with 24 hours’ notice.

4. You can make advance reservations for every restaurant except The Restaurant, as far in advance as you like. See the Maitre d’ or ask your butler. If the ship is very full, there may be a limit on the number of reservations that they will take at one time for any one venue, but this is unusual.

5. On board credit can be used for Silversea excursions, restaurants, boutique and premiere wines. Not sure about the casino.

6. Can’t tell you wattage and voltage for lighting. But there are lots of downlighter spotlights plus bedside lights, with many switches for the different areas. The bedside lights are, of course, a compromise between providing sufficient light to read but without keeping your partner awake. Until recently, most lights were incandescent. New, bright low-energy LED spotlights put in an appearance on Whisper after the recent dry dock. The only fluorescent lighting was in the bathroom and at the dressing table and, I think, above the door to the veranda.

7. I’m no expert, but the shower flow was adequate for a Brit.

jg: Many thanks for your answers to the questions that I posed regarding the SS Spirit. I attempt to assess how many electrical plugs and of what type are available in the cabins because of the usual dirth and inaccessibility of them. There is the usual razor plug in the bathroom, but this will not accept any other (large amp) connnection. So, we get stuck having to cart various style connectors with us, and some of them, like the British plugs, are quite bulky.

It is intersting that the restaurants have varying opening times - according to the itinerary. We'll accomodate ourselves to that schedule. We'll have to see if we can get the evening menus put on our door holder, early in the morning. It is nice to discuss the evening meal well before we arrive.

Glad to hear that we can use the OBC towards excursions, restaurants and boutique. We are used to that.

I find that just about all of the lines have inadequate lighting for bedside. True, you don't want to disturb your partner, but we have never found that to be a problem.

Our last cruise had such poor water flow in the shower, that I felt guilty, when we got home and had our full water supply!

I am sure that the Spirit will prove to be enjoyable and a good experience for us. (I am looking forward to the English Bacon served in La Terraza)

DenEsq, the Spirit Silver Suite has two American electrical outlets, one by the desk and the other by the bed. It is wise to bring along a very small outlet strip to use at the desk. At the bedside, you will have to unplug the clock/I-pod dock in order to plug in the hair dryer at the dressing table. I paid no attention to the European plug situation.

The Spirit bathrooms have very strong water flow in the showers, including an excellent overhead rain shower.

May I ask why the above would be needed, in Jgibbs excellent answers to your list of questions he explained that,

The daily Chronicles is placed in your room each evening. There is a page in it that gives the lunch and dinner menu for the Restaurant for the following day. Menus for the other restaurants are posted outside of the individual restaurants. The first day aboard you will recieve a listing of the themes for Le Champagne and Seshin for each day of the cruise. Your butler can get you the actual menus for the entire cruise. Lighting in the suites, including bedside lighting, is more than adequate for reading. My lovely wife didn't find the bathroom lighting adequate to do her hair, but the lighting at the vanity table was more than adequate. She couldn't use her curling iron in the bathroom anyway, so the vanity table was it. The showers are the best by far of any ship we've cruised. You'll love it if you're a shower person. Times for the restaurants aboard Spirit are a bit different for the different restaurants. Times in the Restaurant are: breakfast 0800-0930, lunch 1230-1400, dinner 1900-2100. For La Terrazza times are: breakfast 0730-1000, lunch 1200-1400, dinner 1900-2100. For Le Champagne and Seshin dinner is 1930-2100. Pool Griil lunch is 1130-1600 and Hot Rocks dinner is 1900-2030. These times come from a copy of Chronicles from our January Spirit cruise.

The showers on Spirit are wonderful with rain shower heads and great water pressure.

We found the bedside lighting quite adequate for reading.

I strongly recommend that you bring a power strip so you can plug in/charge multiple things at once. We only had 2 outlets for US and 2 for European plugs (all along the built ins wall - one set at the desk and another the the vanity) and none near the bed at all.

While we're on the subject of electrical, you should be aware that the smoke detectors aboard Silver Spirit are very sensitive.

Doug: Thanks for the up on SS Smoke Detectors. Smoking is such a touchy subject but we are pleased to hear that SS keeps the Detectors tuned to a superfine degree.
