pkdof Posted July 15, 2010 #1 Share Posted July 15, 2010 In the past, I've gifted myself casino credit so that I wouldn't have to pay the 3% fee on board - found it an easy way to get cash to use for various expenses (tipping tour guides, etc.). Now that they have the casino accounts on your cruise card, can you still get cash this way without a fee?
Toto2Kansas Posted July 15, 2010 #2 Share Posted July 15, 2010 Yes, you can still do the same as you did previously and send yourself casino credits, no fee involved.
pkdof Posted July 15, 2010 Author #3 Share Posted July 15, 2010 So I don't have to leave the balance all on my cruise card account, but can withdraw cash? Can I do it at the casino or do I need to go to the Purser?
EAGLESLOVER Posted July 15, 2010 #4 Share Posted July 15, 2010 please remind me how to do this and the best time to do it. Thanks
Toto2Kansas Posted July 15, 2010 #5 Share Posted July 15, 2010 We might be talking about two different things here. You can send yourself shipboard credit, which is a credit to your onboard account. Or casino credits, which will be vouchers you receive in your stateroom that you present at the casino cage for cash.
Toto2Kansas Posted July 15, 2010 #6 Share Posted July 15, 2010 please remind me how to do this and the best time to do it.Thanks You can either call Princess or fax in your order for casino credits in the amount you wish, there is no limit I know of. Here is the link to the Princess site where they are listed. http://www.princess.com/learn/onboard/gifts_services/onboard_credit/Index.jsp

MandE-UK Posted July 15, 2010 #10 Share Posted July 15, 2010 On our recent Grand cruise to Scandinavia we had US $1500 in on board credit purchased prior to the cruise. On previous cruises they alowed us to get the cash out via the casino using the cruise card and uploading casino credit to it and then withdrawing cash from the casino cashier. No fee was involved. This time after withdrawing US$ 300 they put a stop on my cruise card and told me the casino withdrawal method was only for winnings and we could not under any circumstances use it as an ATM. We managed to withdraw the remaining cash we had bought as OBC out through the Pursers Office (as a favour!!!) but had to ensure that we spent all the remaining cash so as not to lose the OBC granted through the travel agent and via booking on a previous cruise. I suppose the moral is to be careful and only purchase the OBC if the exchange rate is very favourable, as it was last year when we got US$2 to £1. I wondered if Princess was finally going to get wise to what passengers were doing using their onboard credits as an ATM. I know for the last few years it has been recommended to others on CC by some to do it this way. But we all know that Princess does monitor this board occasionally and I figured they would put a stop to it somehow in the not so distant future. Sounds like the future has come about. ;)
