Heraklion Taxi from Port

There are lots of taxis at the port, but they don't want to just take you to Knossos for a reasonable fare ... they will try to sell you a 3 hour or so tour. When we insisted that we just wanted to go to Knossos, they quoted a fare that was twice as high as it should be, so we walked out of the port and were looking for the bus station when we flagged down a passing taxi who took us (4 adults) to Knossos, for 10 euros. We took the bus back and it was great.

It's just over 3 miles each way ... so 60 euros is a hefty fee round trip.

You probably won't be successful at getting a taxi within the port to take you for 10 euros (if your experience is the same as ours) but for 60 euros you might talk them into taking you to Knossos and back along with maybe a tour of Iraklion or somewhere else of interest. You might even convince them to just take you there for 20 euros. Coming back shouldn't be that expensive.
