Sun 4-ever Posted July 18, 2010 #1 Share Posted July 18, 2010 My DH and I are just looking for a nice beach to lay in the sun and relax. Maybe do some snorkeling. Can anyone suggest a beach that we don't ahve to pay to get into that is near where the cruise ship dock? Jo
stoneharborlady Posted July 20, 2010 #2 Share Posted July 20, 2010 There is a beach (Mahoghany Bay) that Carnival CL built right where the ship docks, with some shopping. It looks nice in photos, but I have not been there, dont know how crowded it gets. Doubt if there is good snorkeling there.
skidder Posted July 21, 2010 #3 Share Posted July 21, 2010 I would recommend Tabayana Beach, but you'd need to find a taxi or transportation out there. It is a gorgeous beach with fantastic snorkeling, lots of lounge chairs to around etc
nclvet Posted July 21, 2010 #4 Share Posted July 21, 2010 Hi!! Can you rent snorkel equipment at Tabayana? If yes, do you know what it costs?

FrogFritter Posted August 28, 2010 #8 Share Posted August 28, 2010 We went to the Bananarama Resort while in Roatan. They have a beautiful beach and a nice bar/restaurant area. tandemcruzr Posted August 28, 2010 #9 Share Posted August 28, 2010 Do you have to pay for the Carnival excursion to go to this beach or can you take a cab there? You can walk to the beach at Mahogany Bay and there is no charge for the use of loungers and umbrellas. If you like, you can ride the chair lift for $10/person -- unlimited trips for the day. sdmike Posted August 29, 2010 #10 Share Posted August 29, 2010 We went to Infinity Bay. Free to use the beach, but for $15 you get access to their beach loungers and amazing pool. Snorkel gear rental was $10 for as long as you wanted to use it. There is a reef just off the beach which makes for great snorkeling.
suzanna57 Posted September 3, 2010 #11 Share Posted September 3, 2010 How far away is Infinity Bay from the cruise port? Also, is it difficult to get a cab back to the ship?
watchdiva Posted September 3, 2010 #12 Share Posted September 3, 2010 Hi Susanna: Distance depends upon which cruise terminal you dock in. Coxen Hole (NCL and Celebrity) is closest at about 20 minutes distance; Mahogany Bay (if you're on Carnival, Princess, HAL, etc) is about 35 minutes away. Cabs are plentiful near the West Bay Beaches but you may want to just book a car/driver for the day (usually about $40/pp) who will drive you whereever you want to go, provide a tour of the Island, take you to unique spots for lunch (like Miss Jenny's Lusty Lizard) - these tour guides can drive you to recommend interesting spots to see (the Cameo Factory), fun spots (zip lining) and just plain beautiful spots! Whateever you do - enjoy our Island!
snowmouse Posted October 6, 2010 #13 Share Posted October 6, 2010 We're considering spending the day at Infinity Bay, and then would like to enjoy a late lunch and shopping in the West Bay area. Are these near each other?
Saskatchewan1 Posted October 6, 2010 #14 Share Posted October 6, 2010 Infinity Bay (resort), Tabayana beach, West Bay; they are all one and the same strip of sandy beach. Could throw Gumbalimba in there too, although it is a few hundred metres to the north. On the other hand, West End, where a lot of the small shops and restaurants are, is a seperate village about a 10 minute taxi away (land or water taxi). watchdiva Posted October 6, 2010 #15 Share Posted October 6, 2010 We're considering spending the day at Infinity Bay, and then would like to enjoy a late lunch and shopping in the West Bay area. Are these near each other? All 3 are in the same part of West Bay. There's a great Deli (Mangiamo's) in West Bay Mall which is where several small shops are also located; across from the Mall (it's probably no more than 7-8 shops) is a great restaurant called Celeste's. They are known for their gourmet baleadas which are a meal unto themselves and are very reasonably priced. There's another restaurant called the 360 which is at the top of a hill and the restaurant overlooks the water and not only is the view spectacular but the food is great as well! We've eaten several times at all 3 and can easily recommend them. Don't forget that IB also has a good restaurant and you can have your lunch at one of the beachside tables - the coconut shrimp is killer good and can be shared by two (the portions are quite large). You've got several really good options all within 1-2 minutes of each other..... Enjoy your stay on our Island.

We do not mind walking a bit to get there and back. Thanks!

On Google Earth, it looks like there is a Mall a couple blocks behind Bananarama. Is that the West Bay Mall to which you are referring? If so, how long does it take to walk there from the beach? We're looking to dine on local cuisine (not hamburgers & chicken fingers lol). Would Celeste's fit the bill the best? I found that the Henry Morgan resorts have "honduran day" in their buffets the day we are there but all attempts at contacting them to get a price (and whether a non-guest can eat in the buffet) have gone unanswered :(

There is no beach near where the ship RCCL docks. You will have to grab a cab, it's about a 15 minute drive and can more than likely jump in with a few others to save $$$. Check out other threads on this site for beach info. that will work for you, but almost any beach in Roatan is great.
