Alliea Posted July 29, 2010 #26 Share Posted July 29, 2010 Don't waste your time trying to crash the party....I find a nice quiet bar on the ship while the hoards are trying to mooch as many free (not so good drinks) at that party they can swill. I pay for a very good Martini and laugh......;) THey have wine, yes?
DEBnGAB Posted July 29, 2010 #27 Share Posted July 29, 2010 I ask for the drinks we want so the drinks are fine. Ditto that! :D And a couple of bucks helps to speed up the process....
DaDivaMom Posted July 29, 2010 #28 Share Posted July 29, 2010 We've given our Heathen's invites away before because they are not interested. I've never had an issue walking right back to the bar and asking for wine or a specific drink. Our dinner bar service waiter saw us walk in on Victory and promptly brought two Coronas for the ManHo and two glasses of iced red for me. Everyone around us was astounded! It pays to be sweet to people:D Sometimes we go, sometimes we don't...
jnojr Posted July 29, 2010 #29 Share Posted July 29, 2010 So, what's the deal with a "past guest party", anyway? All the free booze you can drink? Hordes of people tightly packed into a too-small area, all clamoring for free drinks that take an hour to arrive? Do they just give away 'the drink of the day" and charge for anything else? Do they have decent booze or only well rotgut?

Yes Hordes of people tightly packed into a too-small area, all clamoring for free drinks that take an hour to arrive? No, usually held in a lounge/theater and its hit/miss on how many people actually show. There are servers walking around with trays. Do they just give away 'the drink of the day" and charge for anything else? No charge and you can ask for something if it isnt on the tray. Do they have decent booze or only well rotgut? Matter of opinion See above..
marty30907 Posted July 29, 2010 #31 Share Posted July 29, 2010 Glad to see they are starting to enforce the "Past Guest" party. Always been a sore spot for me on this board for people not past guest to get in it. Maybe it is a way to cut costs, make sure the people that are there are suppose to be there.
Duckie26 Posted July 29, 2010 #32 Share Posted July 29, 2010 We crashed the past-guest party on our cruise last year... by accident. We were just wandering around the ship one night (it was our first cruise) and saw something going on in The Taj Mahal and just wandered in. Jaime, who was the acting CD at the time, said "Come on in!"... and didn't ask for an invitation or anything. Once we got in there and realized what it was, we left. We didn't even help ourselves to a free drink. LOL But I guess we will be invited next time! :D
dan40 Posted July 29, 2010 #33 Share Posted July 29, 2010 At PG parties the CD will ask for a show of hands. "How many with over 100 Carnival cruises?" 50?, 25? 10? 5? "How many on their FIRST Carnival cruise?" About half the room raises their hands to that question. I find the service bar and drink single malt Scotch, tipping $2.00 per drink. RCL used to have a free lounge for Diamond [10 or more cruise] and up cruisers and people in suites. So many brought unqualified guests that 1. you couldn't get in the lounge and 2. RCL finally did away with the lounge for all but Diamond Plus and Grand Suite pax. The lowly Diamond lounge is now only on the newer larger ships were there is room for a Diamond AND a Double Diamond lounge.
jnojr Posted July 29, 2010 #34 Share Posted July 29, 2010 See above.. Thanks DEBnGAB! As to my last question... if I ask for a Sapphire and tonic, are they going wind up offering me a generic gin and tonic? Oh, and is it like Vegas... dropping a couple of bucks on the server ensures frequent reappearances? That's one thing we always do when we're playing quarter video poker... it's hard to get a waitress because of all the cheapskates, so when we do, we drop $5 or $10 and a buck a drink after that, and we stay well lubricated until we move on :D

We drop an initial $10 and we cant get the drinks down quick enough before they are back with more! We usually walk out of there with a drink in our hand as well. I frequent the casinos in Vegas and Reno, and like you, know a few bucks will get you a long way with drink frequency. Ask for the Sapphire as you're passing the cash and I'm sure you wont have an issue. ;)
WOWGirl Posted July 29, 2010 #36 Share Posted July 29, 2010 I never tried on my first cruise, because I didnt know about it. After that, my husband and I both go an invitation, so we brought our friends as our guest. You and a guest are invited, so you can bring someone who is a first time cruiser with you. People continually post that the PG party is for Past Guest "and" guest, but every time anyone posts an invitation on the board, it reads, "Joseph Smith" period. No "and" guest. Sorry, but I think you are wrong bringing a guest unless your cruise was quite a few years ago. All our invitations say my name and my husband's name, no guest. If you got an invitation that said and guest, then it's ok, but somehow I don't think that's how things are today. For the Person who just crashed the party, congrats on your big ones, lol. No way would I ever do that, but that's just me.

Cruisin thru life Posted July 29, 2010 #41 Share Posted July 29, 2010 Another reason to avoid that party.....;)By the way....There is no such thing as "free" on a cruise...:D No joke Reguardless of how many of those tiny so-so drinks you can swill, it will cost you 45 minute of your life that you'll never get back. Soooo not worth it. I use to go to pick up my past guest pin for my daughter then leave, since they don't pass those out anymore it saves me a trip to the front of the ship. hubert9999 Posted July 29, 2010 #42 Share Posted July 29, 2010 I wonder if anyone was ever able to get themselves into that party.... do they check? How can they tell? Its sorta silly, but I could see a very tipsy person trying. Sailed on Victory last week. I was invited but I got in without showing the invitation nor my S&S card. The only thing if they don't take your invitation you are not in the raflle. But like many other posts are mentioning it is not worth it.
All4fun&fun4all Posted July 29, 2010 #43 Share Posted July 29, 2010 We love the past guest party. We never knew about it on our first cruise (short little 3 day cruise) to even attempt it but probably wouldnt have tried to crash it. Here is a sampling of our beverages on our most recent cruise's past guest party. Yum! They were pretty strong and I ended up having to take a siesta shortly there after and I am not a lightweight. we carried our drinks to the cigar bar after it was over. The4Cruisers Posted July 30, 2010 #45 Share Posted July 30, 2010 We're 0 for 6 on attending. We did peek into the lounge on our last cruise, but it seemed like the crowd was there to scrounge freebies, so we just turned and left.
Chip1 Posted July 30, 2010 #46 Share Posted July 30, 2010 Hard to get a drink even when you have an invitation:cool: I fully agree. Trying to get the bar staff to bring you a pop can be all but impossible. If I'm lucky the 4th person I ask will bring me a pop. If I'm less lucky the 5th will, if I'm even less lucky the 6th will or if I'm not lucky at all even with asking 6 members of the bar staff I and up with nothing. CRZCRAZY Posted July 30, 2010 #49 Share Posted July 30, 2010 It used to be that the past guest parties were on cruises of 5 days or more, but they have changed that because on our last trip on the Paradise (a 4 day cruise) we had a party on it. I tipped our waiter, (he's the same one we have in the dining room) and I had enough alcohol to make it a little rough getting to dinner. With all that I had at that party and the farewell party, I only bought one other drink on that cruise.
