When to Switch Kids

Recommended Posts

When I booked our cabins directly with RCI, I thought the rule was a parent with someone under age 21, so that's how I booked it. I want to change it so me and my DH are in one cabin and the kids (17 & 16) are in the other. (We've already rec'd docs). Do I make the switch when we board or wait until we get our Sea Passes? Or not even bother telling anyone. First time cruiser so this is all new to me. Thx for your help.

When I first saw the title to this thread, I wondered if we could switch our kid with a better-behaved kid on the cruise.

My bad.

Hee hee dtm09...I thought the same thing..LOL

I am a first cruiser too but I think that it won't make a difference who sleeps in which cabin. The only way things might get confusing is if you have different forms of payment on the different rooms.

We originally booked it the way you did, but our TA told us later that we didn't have to - so we switched it to the 2 kids in one room and the adults in the other room. We did that before the cruise documents were issued though, so it's probably too late. The problem with not telling anyone is that your seapass is your id as well as your room card. I've heard of people just requesting extra keys so they don't have to worry about switching keys all the time so you could probably do that.

Just 4 days till we sail!!

We didn't say anything. Our kids are young so I just made sure my credit card wasn't tied to their keys.

ok...now I made that sound confusing....what I meant to say was.

The only way things might get confusing is if you use different forms of payment for your sea pass accounts. If not then every ones sea pass will go onto one credit card and then it doesn't make a difference where you sleep.

We cruised last summer with my teenaged daughter and her friend. We booked with an adult in each cabin, but when we boarded we went to the purser's desk and got everybody switched around with new passes. Absolutely no problem, and it only took a few minutes.

If you can go to the purser's desk and openly switch everyone around, then why the need to lie initially? I understand RCCL's policy about needing an adult in each room. If they don't enforce this at the purser's desk, then why can't you just book it that way to begin with?

We booked a cruise last year the way you did and after boarding told them that each adult wanted a key (card) to both rooms. No questions asked.

A bad day cruising is better than a good day at work.

The worst cruise I ever took was pretty damned good.

Platinum with RCI, a couple cruises with NCL and 1 with CCL

Clock remove but cruise in Dec

it's only an issue with the kids being booked in seperate rooms if they are not close to the parents rooms. as a previous post suggested just get them switched around when you get onboard. Just remember to keep a key to their room just in case you need to get in.
