kkollwitz Posted August 4, 2010 #1 Share Posted August 4, 2010 I'm assuming that men in San Juan do not wear shorts, and thus I do not plan to wear them either. Can anyone confirm this?
DDMau Posted August 4, 2010 #2 Share Posted August 4, 2010 Please confirm this and why wouldn't they wear them. I am planning on wearing shorts the whole time in SJ and on the cruise as well.

wxjcupo Posted August 4, 2010 #5 Share Posted August 4, 2010 I'm assuming that men in San Juan do not wear shorts, and thus I do not plan to wear them either. Can anyone confirm this? I used to live in Puerto Rico and, customarily, most adult men do not wear shorts. It keeps the sun off of your skin. However, that doesn't mean shorts aren't worn there at all. Anyone can wear shorts while there if you are comfortable wearing shorts. Most tourists wear shorts all the time with no problems at all. Just remember to wear your sunscreen. You are at 18 degrees latitude. Cheers and enjoy your vacation!
amapola Posted August 5, 2010 #6 Share Posted August 5, 2010 Men commonly wear shorts in San Juan, especially in the areas where tourists commonly go. Probably not so much to go to the movies, or to dinner or a bar/pub in the evening, but shorts are perfectly appropriate for daytime casual wear. Mostly you'll see longer, looser shorts, like the cargo shorts; the more tailored Bermudas (think Land's End) aren't too common IMO.
orquidia Posted August 6, 2010 #7 Share Posted August 6, 2010 they wear shorts but do not wear them during evening hours, meaning someone with shorts at a restaurant, at the movies, at a bar is looked down and out of place.

rothjer Posted August 12, 2010 #10 Share Posted August 12, 2010 PR like many Spanish countries do not traditionally wear shorts. Its considered more of a beachwear sort of thing. However, in today's day and age, its perfectly ok. Especially in tourist areas, its pretty hard to wear shorts in PR in the winter let alone the summer !
