Propriano

Hi all,

 

I think Propriano may be a newish port of call for the Island Escape and have been unable to find a lot of info. We're not due to travel until the 21st October and I was just wondering if anyone who has already been or is due to do this itinerary in the near future could please post any relevant info or tips on what to do there? In 2008 we stayed near Sartene for 2 weeks and made many trips to Propriano for shopping. It is a great little town with many wonderful restaurants and shops.

 

Sartene was fantastic. Very much a typical Corsican hill (or mountain!) town. There is a great little market on Saturday mornings if you happen to be there. There were also some very nice restaurants and of course the view down to the sea and valley were spectacular.

 

Filitosa is a great historical site also if you are into that. There is another town, Porto, not far from Propriano that has a great old watch tower and a very nice beach, again with spectacular views.

 

The link in one of the posts above refers to Porto Vecchio, which is actually on the other side of the island and about a two hour drive from Propriano. I wouldn't suggest doing this as the most direct route is not terribly scenic and once there it is very touristy. The old town is lovely, but would spend my time in Sartene, which is much closer to Propriano.

 

Corsica is a fantastic place. The island is extremely diverse, culturally and landscape. The food is great and the people very friendly. We spent two weeks there and could have easlity spent a month and still not seen all it has to offer.

 

Enjoy your day there whatever you choose to do.

We visited Propriano last month. It is a lovely little seaside town.

 

You dock right next to the town so you can get off and walk to the shops and cafes etc. There is a small marina as well as a couple of beaches either side of the town - both within walking distance.

 

I dare say you could get a taxi into one of the other towns but we just stayed locally.

hi did proriano in july ship actually berthed at quay first time ever.one long main street full of usual touristy shops but a decent beach about 400 yards away from quayside and a shower on beach

Hi guys, thanks for your responses so far. So far it's looking like we may just stay in the town and have a mooch about. With there being 4 of us we're not looking to fork out for any ship organised tours with the possible exception of Pisa/Florence. We'll be docking at Marina Di Carrarra on a Sunday and from the research I've done on here it looks like the organised trip is the way to go.

Didnt think there was a lot to do in Propriano? when we went. strolled off the good ship IE, less than 2 mins from ship to street.

We were there end of July with IE. There is nothing to do in the port apart from a few expensive restaurants and tat shops to visit.

 

This didn't bother us though as it followed a busy day in Rome. As you come off the ship on the left are some shops and restaurants. On the right is a small square with a restaurants, diving shop (yes really) and an electronic shop (yes really!). Behind them with a 3 minute walk is the sandy beach where we headed. It's in a small cove, so the water is lovely and the scene very secluded.

 

We saw the entertainment team off IE turn up and go for a swim as well

There isn't a great deal to do here.... however, we found the beach amazing and spent the whole day there. It is literally a five minute walk from the boat, so close enough to go back to make use of the buffet lunch facilities. The snorkelling here was amazing!!! If you like watersports then an 8 minute walk along the quay in the other direction they are at plenty. An extremely pretty scenic stop! ENJOY!!!!!!
