Thanksgiving Day in Canada

Recommended Posts

Last year in Saint John, we found most shopping closed. There is a mall a couple of blocks from the port that gives the handicapped easy access to areas otherwise inaccessible because of the hills. The mall itself was open, but very few stores in the mall were open. Restaurants and tourist related shops were open.

Will everything be closed? Will tours still take passengers on excursions? Never thought about it until I read that Oct 11 is Canada's Thanksgiving Day.

Depends on what part of canada...it's a huge country and different provinces have different laws about holiday opening and different customs.

As mentioned in another thread on this forum, note that most stores that are normally open on Sundays will be open on the Sunday of the Thanksgiving weekend (Oct 10). It is the Monday, Oct. 11 that is the big holiday, when schools, government offices, most businesses, and many stores will be closed.
