cruise8x+ Posted August 11, 2010 #1 Share Posted August 11, 2010 Will everything be closed? Will tours still take passengers on excursions? Never thought about it until I read that Oct 11 is Canada's Thanksgiving Day.
LindaKE Posted August 11, 2010 #2 Share Posted August 11, 2010 Last year in Saint John, we found most shopping closed. There is a mall a couple of blocks from the port that gives the handicapped easy access to areas otherwise inaccessible because of the hills. The mall itself was open, but very few stores in the mall were open. Restaurants and tourist related shops were open.

Depends on what part of canada...it's a huge country and different provinces have different laws about holiday opening and different customs. maryann ns Posted August 11, 2010 #4 Share Posted August 11, 2010 Which port will you be in? I would expect that shops around the cruise terminal will be open and your excursions will be OK, but most stores will be closed.
Putterdude Posted August 11, 2010 #5 Share Posted August 11, 2010 Tours booked thru the ships will go ahead, independent tours...you will have to check on. Retail openings will vary from city to city and region to region but in general they will be closed.
Pepperwood Posted August 13, 2010 #6 Share Posted August 13, 2010 As mentioned in another thread on this forum, note that most stores that are normally open on Sundays will be open on the Sunday of the Thanksgiving weekend (Oct 10). It is the Monday, Oct. 11 that is the big holiday, when schools, government offices, most businesses, and many stores will be closed.
