pajammies Posted August 17, 2010 #1 Share Posted August 17, 2010 We are thinking of doing Altun Ha, but most of us aren't interested in the lunch. Anyone know of another reputable tour guide than doesn't serve lunch in the cost. (Island marketing serves lunch included in the cost) I realize the ship excursion doesn't include lunch but trying to save some money. vmom Posted August 20, 2010 #2 Share Posted August 20, 2010 We just booked out Altun Ha tour when we arrived at the port. There are licensed tour operators at the port. We had originally planned on cave tubing and at the last minute, the tubing was canceled due to weather conditions. We then walked around the port area and there was a booth, off to the right if you are facing the port, that had tour signs ups. There were 5 of us in a minivan, and the cost was $35 per person. It was wonderful. It was basically a private tour and the guide was informative and interesting. If you decide to do this, then make sure and book with the booth that is INSIDE the port enclosure, not with someone outside the port enclosure. The guide service that is available is regulated and licence by the governement. There is a mob of independent operators outside the port enclosure, but with them, you don't know who you are dealing with. Anyone can go and just hold up a sign in the back. pajammies Posted August 20, 2010 Author #3 Share Posted August 20, 2010 Thank you, that's a great price, or at least the cheapest I've seen. Do you remember the name of the tour group. Did you pay up front or when you were done?
