Bluecruiser: We first attended the Senor Tango show in 1999 and made the reservation through our hotel. They picked us up and returned us to the hotel as well. It was an excellent show with a live orchestra which was oustanding. Food was very good and we were seated on long tables which held about six couples one couple was from Brazil but did not speak English, however, their daughters did and we had good conversation. If you attend by yourself you may be seated with people you cannot converse with because of language differences. I understand that since our visit the show has changed and it is rumored that a horse has been added to the show, not my idea of a Tango performance.

For our second show in 2003 we chose Esquina Carlos Gardel. I made the arrangements through privatetours along with another couple and Carlos from privatetours booked us a table for five (he escorted us) which was elevated and right in the middle for viewing the stage. The food was excellent as was the show.

In 2004 we again met Carlos, this time in LaBoca at a small restaurant where there was a tango performance by a young couple, very nice.

We were in BA two weeks ago and saw the Tango Show Piazolla. It was wonderful. It's not as "glitzy" as Gardel and there are no horses, flashing lights or lasers. The Piazolla theatre is gorgeous and like the others, you might be seated with others. We had a table for 2.

The show has 4 or 5 tango couples and a small tango orchestra of about 5 musicians. Then there is one female and one male soloist singer. Lots of costume changes and the dancing is incredible. The man also is the host of the show and says a few words in a few languages. He asked audience where they were from and there was a nice mix of south americans, europeans and americans.

It was arranged by Cintia of WOW Argentina and included hotel pick-up and drop-off and a very good 3 course dinner which included wine and bottled water. I think we paid her about $50. pp for the package.

If you go to the LA Boca neighborhood, there's an old and charming restaurant on the main street that has a couple of tango dancers and musicans that perform for tips. You can't miss the place. It was terrific for a low key experience and a nice lunch. La Boca is for a daytime visit, not evening.

I also used Cintia and Matthias of Wowargentina.com and was very impressed with both of them. Cintia arranged a trip to Iguassu Falls and Mendoza and her husband gave me an excellent private tour of the city. They touched base with me often during my stay in Argentina and I felt like having friends (although I'm much older than this young couple). They booked Senor tango for me and told me exactly what to expect so I wasn't disappointed. Some friends of mine have recently used Wowargentina and they told me that Cintia recommended two different shows and gave them a detailed explanation of both. I don't think they gave me the name but will try to find out.

Joyce & Simon,

Carlos at Private Tours booked a Tango show for us. He said it is at a Tango place called Taconeando. He said it holds 120 people and is the only Tango house where you will have the opportunity to dance the tango with professionals at the end of the show. (If I have enough wine I just might try.) It is written up in Frommers and Fodors says it is the next most popular club to Senor Tango. We didn't want touristy so this is what Carlos booked for us.

Looking forward to meeting you on the 15th.

Joanne
