Nice Hotel Near Quebec City Port?

We will be flying into Quebec City in Oct 2011 a day or so early to board a repositioning cruise to Ft Lauderdale, FL. We have never been to the city before, have no idea how far the airport is from the port, or where we should stay. Any advise would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

 

(Oops, I lied... my husband remembers being taken to the Hotel Frontenac for lunch as a young boy, while on vacation with his parents. Does that count? :))

Quebec City Airport (YQB) is located +/- 25 minutes from the Quebec Port. The taxi flat rate between the two places is 32.50 CAD.

I found a special rate (still expensive though) on expedia for the Fairmont Chateau Frontenac. We are staying 3 nights pre cruise and I am excited to stay in this fairy castle building that is in 1000 places to see before your die. I don't get to stay in most of those hotels:p:D

Stay near the port. Lots to see and do in that area, and in Upper Town, which is, er, above the port area and where you'll find the Château Frontenac (which actually overlooks the port).

 

There are several nice boutique-style hotels within easy walking distance of the cruise terminal; here's a list, in order of distance:

I can vouch for Auburge Saint-Antoine. Very nice and literally right across the road from the pier. Within walking distance of old town and everything you would want to see there.

Right across the park from Chateau Frontenac is Hotel du Pierre on rue St. Genevieve where I've stayed for over 20 yrs on three separate trips.. centrally located, small, IMHO ideal:) There are so many nice small hotels in the older part of town!
