Cruising South New Zealand - Which Side is Best?

Scheduling a south bound New Zealand cruise and would like to know if Starboard side of ship will be better since it is land facing, or will the balcony get too hot since it will be also facing west all day?

Pros and Cons would be greatly appreciated.

If you are sailing south land will be on the port side of the ship. I doubt that your balcony will get too hot. If you are cruising Milford sound you will want to be up on deck for the full panoramic view (with a jacket on).

I was taught the left is PORT and right is Starboard. If the cruise begins in Auckland and goes south on the EAST side of New Zealand, the ship's RIGHT side will be facing land.

Am I missing something?

The fjords are on the West Coast of the South Island. Milford Sound is amazing, although I only cruised it on a small boat from the port

Facing the direction of travel the LHS is the Port side, and the RHS is the Starboard side. (easy way to remember Port (the drink) is RED in colour, as in Left Wing politically. Therefore opposite is Right and GREEN .)

If your NZ cruise visits Milford Sound and then sails up the coast towards Auckland then you are travelling North and land will be on on your PORT side.

Sailing South from Auckland towards Milford Sound land will be on your STARBOARD side . Best have a cabin on the land side, in NZ Summer it is not really hot. Down the South island at sea wind is the issue .

Our country is beautiful, which ever way you look at it!!! :D

A lovely day in Wellington today, which makes a change .. we have had a DREADFUL winter, and to be truthful, the Astrocats can't wait to get out of here for our September cruise!!!

Seriously, you will have a great cruise I am sure ... and we Kiwis will be eager to welcome back Celebrity when the ships come down under again!
