Portland, Bar Harbor, St John NB: Need Help finding Private Tours?

Recommended Posts

:confused:We are First Time Cruisers looking for advise. We are cruising from Boston on October 9th and would like to have private tours booked in advance at all Ports. We have booked Bruce of Bruce's Tours in Halifax. He will take us to Peggy's Cove and Lunnenberg. Does anybody have suggestions for Portland, Bar Harbor, and St John? We are considering the hop on and off Trolley in Bar Harbor. Would appreciate any help that you can give.

In Saint John - www.freedomtours.com for the St. Martin`s excursion. If staying in Saint John, you can walk to most everything you`ll want to see. If you do the thrill rides - you`ll need to take a $10 taxi ride to Fallsview Park for the zip lining or the Jet Boat Ride.

I would consider Bar Harbor to be a DIY port. So here is my short list of to dos:

You could take a tour of Acadia National Park. Here are 2 independent tour companies:

Go out whale watching:

If you have only eaten a lobster and would like to learn more about them, take a tour on Lulu lobster boat:

Go Kayaking:

Just relax in town, due some window shopping, people watching, strolling and don’t forget to do it with a cone of lobster flavor ice cream:

If you are not interested in a tour but would like to see ANP or anywhere else on MDI, ride the free seasonal bus (Island Explorer). There are 7 routes including the ANP loop road:

With your cone of lobster ice cream, walk BH’s Shore Path:

If time permits, visit the Jordan Pond House Restaurant for afternoon tea and their famous hot popovers and strawberry jam (YUMMY!). You will have to take the Island Explorer to and return; route # 5 is direct, route #4 is indirect.

Take a sail on the 151’ schooner Margaret Todd:

For a taxi, you could try:

FYI, Bar Harbor & Portland are ports of call in New England. You'll find good info on both at the New England forum of the Ports of Call board here: http://boards.cruisecritic.com/forumdisplay.php?f=20

We hired Mike Scopie ( cell phone number 1-506-640-1633) in Saint John at $50 an hour and were extremely pleased with his comprehensive tour this past week. He was very knowledgeable and fit a lot into his tour. I would recommend him without reservation.
