2-3 hours in Vancouver

People often ask about what to do if they have a couple of hours in Vancouver upon arrival or before leaving. Here's an idea...

Yesterday my husband and I went by Seabus (you leave from Waterfront Station, directly east of Canada Place- a two minute walk) over to North Vancouver's Lonsdale Quay. It's a 12 minute commuter ferry ride. On the other side is a small market similar to Granville Island, but there is also new waterfront development that makes for an interesting stroll.

First of all, you get fabulous panoramic views of downtown Vancouver. There is a pier that has free binoculars so you can take a closer look.

Second, the theme of the waterfront development honours the former shipyards that were on the site. These shipyards were huge to BC's economy for many years and a big contributor to the war effort in the First and Second World Wars. They've left some of the heavy equipment in place, many of the rail lines, and put up interesting signage with stats and pictures.

If you want to stay longer, there are lots of place to eat in the Quay and on nearby streets.
