Google Phone - could it be used on a ship?

I just used Google Phone to call NZ @ a rate of .02 a minute (from the US). I don't know about the reception (left a voice mail). But is there any reason why you couldn't use the same technology from your laptop in the cabin if you prepaid for wireless?

 

It would be much cheaper than adding data package/int'l minutes to an iPhone or buying an international phone.

 

It would be awesome to leave our cell phone at the airport parking lot and use a laptop to check in at home.

Never mind.....answered my own question per the FAQ on the Princess site. They limit high-broadband applications, including VOIP.

 

I suppose I could still use Google Phone in port if necessary.

I did a bandwith test on it. Even if Princess doesn't block it, I don't think you would get sufficient steady data flow to have a decent conversation.

That's probably true. The Internet connection can be spotty at best at times. Also, using VOIP uses a lot of bandwidth which means that everyone's connection would be affected.

Great deal going on thru the end of this year on google :D We didn't call out of the U.S. this weekend, but did use it for the U.S. this weekend. Much clearer than the cell phones. We also had to play with the video chat. Neat huh!
