Got Tequila? Posted August 31, 2010 #2 Share Posted August 31, 2010 Does anyone know if you can bring an iron on the Gem or if there is a place on the ship that has irons. Thanks in advance. Don't bring your own. Just ask your cabin steward and they will deliver one to your cabin....with an ironing board as well. :)
Don Haynes Posted August 31, 2010 #3 Share Posted August 31, 2010 Irons are banned, so don't bring one aboard. You can ask your room steward for an iron and an ironing board. They will arrange for both to be delivered to your cabin for a short period of time depending upon the demand... The Fire Prevention and Safety Act of 1974 mandates that the hospitality industry, hotels and cruise ships, provide an ironing board... Because of several world wide high rise hotel fires at that time, many nations passed such legislation including the U.S. Many cruise ships don't have ironing boards in their cabins, therefore the ban on irons. But one of both can be requested... Other alternatives to irons and ironing boards would be to use travel steamers, Downy's Wrinkle Release, and/or hang your clothes while running the shower's hot water to steam up the bath room... You can also use the ships laundry as well, they offer pressing services too... NCL does not have any self service laundrymats, or ironing rooms either... b0684 Posted August 31, 2010 Author #4 Share Posted August 31, 2010 thanks for all the info. Glad I asked. I'm starting to pack for Sept. 11 cruise and thought I heard somewhere that you could not bring them anymore. Again, thanks to all.
