Formal Nights

So will I be totally out of place wearing my tuxedo on a Carnival ship? Have always cruised with Royal Caribbean and while I was in the minority I was never alone. For me wearing the tuxedo is a fun part of the cruise.

It sounds like I could be alone on a Carnival ship?

Or mistaken for a waiter?

No you will not be alone. I have always been surprised at the number of men who wear a tuxedo or dinner jacket on the Cruise Elegant nights. Some people here have an agenda to promote casual dress on these nights. I have never understood that as dressing up in nice clothes is one of the highlights of cruising for us.

We live in a town where none of the restaurants has a dress code. If we go to our nearby big city (Greensboro, NC) the three or four restaurants that do have a dress code do not even come close to enforcing it. We are tired of this casual world as it has not made things better in any way.

Wear your tuxedo, enjoy looking great and let the slobs have their holy blue jeans.

There is only one elegant night on 4 and 5 day cruise. And right, it's not so elegant anymore. If a tux gets the movie star stare out of Mobile then it will do the same out of Charleston. That means the majority of passengers going with you have never seen a man in a tux in person therefore they think they must be royality or movie stars.

We have only been on five night cruises so far -- our seven night cruise in September will be the longest.

We took a cruise in February of this year to Cozumel and Costa Maya and formal night (second night of five) was also secret agent night. There was a smattering of tuxedos at dinner and shortly after. Later in the evening in the casino I still wore mine (pretending to be James Bond in Monte Carlo, $5 chips had two extra zeros in my mind) and there was some promotion that if a guest found the secret agent they would get a free slot pull or something. I had at least 19 people ask me for their freebie. It was all in fun and my wife got a big thrill out of it -- she thought it was hilarious.
