Queen Elisabeth Call Sign - GBTT

One for the rivet counters!

Cunard are to re-use the original Queen Mary, GBTT, call sign on Queen Elizabeth. After Queen Mary was withdrawn the call sign was transferred to QE2 (which no longer can use it as she's no longer UK registered).

No doubt the marketers would have rather she use 'GBQE' like QM2 (GBQM) or QV (GBQV) - it is available - alas the original Queen Elizabeth call sign 'GBSS' is not - its used by a Ministry of Defence Police launch 'Loyalty' (about a third of the way down the page)

Didn't Princess do well? ;)

Someone might almost suggest that they had a sense of history!

And for everyone other than "Sacked by Cunard", what welcome news.

Certainly GBTT sounds better than all the others when used in the Int. Phonetic alphabet. And had we still had morse (sigh), it would still have run off the fist easier and sounded nicer in the phones than the others. Although it would surely have been compresssed by time and habit into a three letter group GBM.

About as orginal as UK themed stores on Cunard themed vessels...to congratulate them on something so basic and expected means we need to continually lower the bar...the learning curve is getting much longer.

Is anyone surprised at this?

About as predictable as the sun rising in the morning.

Yes Indeed!! I personally think it is a hoot. I read the comment as I was skimming through the thread and didn't even have to look to see who had written it. I just knew and was confirmed when I scrolled up to check. When all is said and done though, given the vicissitudes of life these days, it is nice to know that there will always be one constant other than the sun rising.
