Balcony and Dinner Question

I leave on the Carnival Dream in 5 days! and have a balcony room for the first time. Can someone tell me if there is a way to prop the balcony door open to enjoy the breeze in the room? Do I need to bring a bugee cord or a door stop? Or is it frowned upon to leave the door propped open?

And since I'm asking...if we didn't get assigned a definite seating time (i.e. early or late) when we booked, does that mean we don't get one of those seatings and have do the 'your own time' thing? I've got two kids so I was hoping for the early seating.

Thanks in advance for the info!!! :)

They do not like you to prop the door open as it affects the AC but we all do it. I just use the rubber stop that they use to prop the cabin door open when they are cleaning. Some people do use a bungie but I never have. As far as dining time - you will be assigned sometime before you sail (sometimes) and sometimes it is assigned when you received your S&S card. At any rate - if you do not get your preference (early) just go to the dining room at 1:30 and talk to the Maitre d and nicely ask if you can be switched for the reason you state. They will make every effort to accommodate you and usually do. This is one time that I will tip the Maitre d (at the end of the cruise - last night dining - with a nice thank you note)
