grannyfranny Posted September 13, 2010 #1 Share Posted September 13, 2010 Has anyone booked this cruise? We did and just did our airfare. Looking forward to this trip. It will be our first cruise on a small ship. Fran
Talisker92 Posted September 14, 2010 #2 Share Posted September 14, 2010 We just did a river cruise from Budapest to Amsterdam. I would suggest buying a guide book about the castles on the Rhine so you can get the names and the history. Our trip story is on our website http://www.stevekathytravels.com
mytravels Posted September 16, 2010 #3 Share Posted September 16, 2010 We did this AMA Rhine cruise last month, and it was great. Does your cruise start in Basel or Amsterdam? The ship, the Amaryla was beautiful and the crew and the cruise director were wonderful. You will have a splendid time. As far as the castles on the Rhine, we were given a sheet with the names and locations of each castle. The cruise director would then tell a brief story about each one. Of course, if you want more details or are a history buff, you may wish to get a book in advance as was suggested in another comment. I will be happy to provide any other information to you about this cruise if you have any specific questions. :) mytravels
grannyfranny Posted September 16, 2010 Author #4 Share Posted September 16, 2010 Thanks for your response. This is our first river cruise. How were the cabins? Was the service and food good? Fran
mytravels Posted September 20, 2010 #5 Share Posted September 20, 2010 The cabins on AMA ships are among the largest of the river cruise lines from what I understand. Two years earlier we went with Avalon and found the cabin size comparable. Both of those cruise lines seem to have a newer line of ships than their competitors. The service was outstanding. The crew really seemed to take pride in their jobs and were always friendly and helpful. In regards to the food, we thought it was very good - better than the food that we had on our Avalon cruise. The only slight drawback was that some nights when we had an evening excursion, the food service was a little slow. However, overall our experience was quite enjoyable. You will have a great time. mytravels:)
