Grand Voyages

We had this perk on our last grand cruise and it is great.

You get forms to fill out - listing every single thing in your suitcases

In Triplicate!

You have to attach all these documents to your suitcase - everything is explained quite clearly and if you have any questions there is a number to call for information.

One of the cable ties was missing and one broken but we just went out and bought some more rather than have them send more.

We found the women handling this to be knowledgeable and competent and going the second mile if need be.

You have to reverse the procedure coming home a few days beforeyou get off the ship - the women set up a place for you to get your forms and any info that you need.

The cases were picked up 2 weeks before we left because we are in Canada - the next time we saw them they were in our cabin - you can also track their progress in transit and breathe a sigh of relief when they arrive at the pier.

Coming home - the cases arrived about 3 days after we did.

It is one of the reasons we book early for the amenities - the time that we didn't we had to take 2 large suitcases plus our carry on's and pull/drag them through customs at the border and out and back to the bus - no carts available and certainly no help from the men who sat and watched us struggle with everything.

Wrinkled clothes? well, yes - more than usual but not enough to have to send them for pressing - just hung them in the bathroom when we had a shower and the creases dropped out. There are also irons in the laundry rooms.

Hope that is helpful.

one poster in the past had a recliner shipped to their cabin, and had the photos to prove it.

Aside from typically large amounts of clothing, jewelry, cameras and the occassional personal servant - passengers have brought aboard furniture (chairs, endtables, lamps and desks) record players and stereos, bicycles, golfclubs, sporting rifles, desktop computer setups, painting supplies (easels, canvases, palletes, paints, brushes, etc), stacks of books, framed family photographs - even rare paintings (IIRC - one renowned passenger used to book the annual Cunard World Cruise with a favorite Monet in it's own custom-fitted travel case) Some have even brought dogs, motorcycles and automobiles aboard the ships that had kennel facilites and garages - such as the old France and QE2.

Basically the rule for World Cruise passengers nowadays is: If you want to bring it, there's space in your stateroom(s) for it (the line will move out smaller pieces of furniture to accommodate - and some folks will book an inside stateroom just for the luggage) and it's not a prohibited item such as an electric iron, firearms or a non-service animal - You can bring it.
