Pacific Jewel Bounty Adventure Review

Part 1

Day of embarkation:

Not a great start as our pre booked shuttle failed to pick us up. Every time we rang them the driver was "stuck in traffic". Finally after waiting over 1 hour we cancelled the shuttle & booked a delightful young taxi driver, but very expensive ride, who got us to the wharf on time. Wharf 5 embarkation is well organised & the people working there are fantastic. Easy & quick check in, on board by 11.45, we were group 3.

The ship was beautiful, made our way to the Purser to sort out accounts.

Lunch in the Waterfront...lovely restaurant. Explored the ship, checked out the Aqua Spa, decided to sign up for the VIP pass, $109 each for 16 days, unlimited access to the steam room, aromatherapy room, sauna, relaxation room, etc, unfortunately no hot tub, all served with a glass of the worst champagne (daily) we had ever tasted. This to me represented good value, it was quiet & relaxing, plus the showers there were better than the cabin.

Sailaway we spent lounging at the Oasis, missed muster too busy getting our spots for sailaway. As usual a wonderful experience.

Weather was cool for a couple of days only.

Cabin:

Our cabin towards the back of the ship (great to be able to duck out & get some fresh air or just lie on one of the lounges to relax). Cabin was clean & comfortable, plenty of drawers, 4 of us in there, the ladders were a bit of a nusiance but we soon got them sorted out. Cabin steward was pleasant but nothing to write home about. 2 days to get extra pillows, air con not working well, too hot, had it checked twice, finally working well.

Shows:

The only ones we went to were Mr Fish (having seen him before it was worth a second show) & Liar's Club which was very funny. Unfortunately Zoltina-J was in fine form in Liar's Club, so we decided no more shows. We are not fans, sorry, but she is not to our taste. The seating in the Marquiss could be improved, it's not a huge area & the seats are quite uncomfortable.

Casino:

We spent a lot of time here playing Blackjack, Poker & Roulette. The casino staff are amazing, friendly, funny, we got to know them very well & had a meal with some of them at La Luna.

Pools:

I prefer the Dawn set up better as there are 2 hot tubs at the back of the ship which are adults only. The hot tubs did not work & were warm only. Lots of kids using them eventually they put up a sign for adults onlt in 1 tub. Hellishly small, max 4 adults. Adult pool & kids pool same size. nice when the water was warm. Interestingly they were chlorinated water not emptied at night. Lounges were always packed due to the concentration of people around the pool.

The Oasis is a great place to relax, $10 full day or $5 half day. No kids & comfortable lounges. They even have granny rugs for the cool weather.

Drinks:

Expensive. For example, Scotch was pre mixed with Pepsi so if you wanted Scotch & Coke you had to order a scotch & a can of Coke. Our usual bottle of wine was $42 with dinner. the bar staff are fantastic, Good coffees at the Atrium near the shop & on Deck 12 at the Chocolate Culture shop.

The Attic (nightclub);

Very small, the Dome was much better on the Dawn. Always packed.

Photos:

Absolutely too expensive, $30 per photo. Not to mention the backdrop for formal photos. There were however some lovely photos taken.

Hello again maxx,

So did you use Aqua spa most days and was the sauna with the ocean windows working? Champagne, I didn't see that as an inclusion when we did our ships tour! I thought aromatherapy was an additional expense?

How could you miss muster unless you hid in your cabin, please explain so we know what to do to miss this?

What was your cabin number (inside or outside) and your cabin stewards name? Forewarned is forearmed.

Did Mr Fish do a different show to what he did on the Sun? What is Liar's Club. Can you elaborate a bit more on Zoltina J? Even though we think she will be on the Pearl when we go on the Jewel in January.

Is the Poker table electronic like the one on the Sun?

Did you use the Oasis much?

You mentioned in regard to the Attic (Jewel) in comparison to the Dome (Dawn); which one was always packed? I liked the look of the Attic as a quiet bar to get away from the crowds during the day or a pre dinner cocktail!

Just over 4 months now until we sail on the Jewel.

Hi Stan

Such a change from the Pacific Sun, you will enjoy.

So did you use Aqua spa most days and was the sauna with the ocean windows working? Champagne, I didn't see that as an inclusion when we did our ships tour! I thought aromatherapy was an additional expense?

There are additional services available, we just had the spa suite as they call it.

How could you miss muster unless you hid in your cabin, please explain so we know what to do to miss this?

we were lounging & enjoying a drink at the Oasis with many others. They didn't even remind us to attend.

What was your cabin number (inside or outside) and your cabin stewards name? Forewarned is forearmed.

Aft deck 9, outside. Prefer not to give out cabin number.

Did Mr Fish do a different show to what he did on the Sun?

Yes, still very funny.

What is Liar's Club.

A comedy celebrity show.

Can you elaborate a bit more on Zoltina J? Even though we think she will be on the Pearl when we go on the Jewel in January.

She has many fans, just not us. I must say though that she seems to have quietened down a bit. Not as irritating as the first time we met her.

Is the Poker table electronic like the one on the Sun?

They have 1 electronic table.

Did you use the Oasis much?

Used it once only for half day on return from Noumea. you can stay there but they hit you up for surcharge when you buy from the bar.

You mentioned in regard to the Attic (Jewel) in comparison to the Dome (Dawn); which one was always packed? I liked the look of the Attic as a quiet bar to get away from the crowds during the day or a pre dinner cocktail!

Attic was quiet during the day. They were having some quilling classes there when we visited several times. Not sure about pre dinner drinks, but definitely packed at night.

We also thought the Aqua Spa signup was a decent deal. Make good use of it too.

Cabin:

Cabin steward was pleasant but nothing to write home about.

Ours was just beginning her 2nd contract so was a bit distant the first few days. Began to cheer up as the cruise went on - kept the place absolutely spotless.

Shows:

The only ones we went to were Mr Fish (having seen him before it was worth a second show) & Liar's Club which was very funny. The seating in the Marquiss could be improved, it's not a huge area & the seats are quite uncomfortable.

Agree that the bench seats got uncomfortable real quick. And I think the walk-thrus could be better arranged. It can get very difficult to use the side seating once all the rear seats have been taken. I actually enjoyed the bulk of the shows more than I expected. The pirate show didn't work for me.

Pools:

The hot tubs did not work & were warm only. Lots of kids using them eventually they put up a sign for adults onlt in 1 tub. Hellishly small, max 4 adults.

Even with the sign it was common for both spas to be full of kids. Girls in one, boys in the other... I kept saying to the better half she should just go and sit beside them to scare them off, but couldn't get past the mental image of kids doing what they do in pools...

Drinks:

Expensive. the bar staff are fantastic, Good coffees at the Atrium near the shop & on Deck 12 at the Chocolate Culture shop.

Agree completely. They must have make a killing on the booze over the 2 weeks.
