Beach Mama3 Posted September 23, 2010 #1 Share Posted September 23, 2010 I never hear anyone talking about beaches in San Juan. We wil be just off teh Liberty for the day, and I was thinking of hitting a beach after some shopping. Any suggestions?
Kikkycat Posted September 23, 2010 #2 Share Posted September 23, 2010 There are no beaches in Old San Juan proper - you'll have to take a cab to any of them. The nearest is Escambron, which isn't all that far, but not really walking distance when you look at how short a timeframe Liberty is in port for. The next would be Condado, then Isla Verde, which is a gorgeous beach in one of the hotel districts (near the airport).
The Floaties Posted September 23, 2010 #3 Share Posted September 23, 2010 Are the beaches you mentioned, accessable to the public? Kikkycat Posted September 23, 2010 #4 Share Posted September 23, 2010 Yes, all the beaches have public access, although access to lounge chairs/umbrellas and whatnot may be limited to hotel guests in certain sections in Condado and Isla Verde. There aren't any hotels along Escambron, although Normandie (closed, last I knew) and Hilton Caribe are at the eastern end of the beach somewhat. Cordova's casual cruiser Posted September 24, 2010 #5 Share Posted September 24, 2010 Carolina Beach is very nice. It is just a half mile or so east of Isla Verde, and literally a quarter-mile from the airport. Planes take off overhead! Nice public beach, with restrooms, showers, etc. But no lounge chairs or vending. Just bring your own towels, a cooler, and enjoy!
lvz2cruz Posted November 17, 2010 #6 Share Posted November 17, 2010 Are any of these beaches good for snorkeling? Is there one that is more popular with cruise passengers and more safe?
