What to do in Progresso w/ a ship excurision

We did the DZ ruins tour through AutoProgreso. It gave us a little time to look around the shops before boarding the bus.

I was extremely pleased with the tour company. They had representatives beside the fountain at the port. We paid our $29 US per person and boarded the bus for town. We still had about 45 minutes once we arrived in town before the tour actually began. So we walked around the open air market. We then met the tour guide at the designated location and boarded the bus. As we waited for others to join, a local entertained us with his guitar. Of course he looked for tips just before we departed.

The bus was decent. Air-conditioned with a bathroom on board. It took about 20 minutes to arrive at the ruins. Our guide purchased the tickets for the ruins at the entrance. He gave us a few minutes to use the restroom and then began the tour. Jerry was very good about providing us time to look around each area. We then had about 20 minutes to swim in the cenote before we had to meet back at the bus. The driver then took us directly to the port in plenty of time to board the ship.

We're planning to do the same tour in about 3 weeks when we return for our anniversary cruise.

Pretty well all the tours involve some driving, whether it's the 30 minute drive to Dzibilchaltun or the two hours or less to Uxmal. Chichen Itza is definitely too far in my opinion unless you are a diehard Mayan ruin fan.

In Progreso, the thing to do, IMHO, is to get a table on the beach and order fresh fried fish; the whole thing is on a plate, head and all and it is crispy good delicious. While you are eating that, with your fingers, curl your toes in the sand and take a sip of a cold beer and just think how good life is.

Happy planning!:)
