Traveler's Checks

KROME1380

Recommended Posts

I am planning on visiting the Bahamas, Cayman Islands, Jamaica, and Mexico on my western caribbean cruise. I hear that it is better to travel with travelers checks than cash, why is that? How do the work because I never used them before? Do they automatically change over to that country's currency? Is the value of the traveler's check the same value in the I will be in? I have no idea:o

Someone please let me know of how to purchase traveler's checks, what are they good for, where to purchase them and so forth. Please let me know of all the information I need to know about them if anyone has the time.

Thanks:)

Just go to your bank and tell them what you want ( either U.S dollars or whatever) Then wherever you cash them they will either give you U.S cah or if you want it converted to Pesos they will do that too. Your bank will give you all the info. Good Luck

American Express Traveller's Checks also offer a prepaid credit card, which is what DH and I plan on doing for most of our travelling fund. May be easier than having to tote all the individual checks, endorse them, change the currency over, etc.

just a thought! you can check it out online.:)

Hi MamaParrotHead,

Do you know if other companies offer these prepaid credit cards? I think it's a great idea! To me, it would be a lot safer also. If your card got stolen, they can only access the $$ value of the card. How does it work? I assume you prepay a set amount of money for the card. How do you know how much money you have left to spend?

We are going on a Med cruise in the fall & I think this would be great over in Europe.

Are you a ParrotHead? LOL. My 2 daughters & son-in-law are avid! They went to Key West to see JB's concert a few years ago.

Thanks for the info.
