spongerob Posted February 17, 2005 #2 Share Posted February 17, 2005 Why? If you encounter a tsunami at sea, it is likely you wouldn't even notice it.
TimothyG Posted February 17, 2005 Author #3 Share Posted February 17, 2005 When your docked in a foreign country, are there warnings? does the carribean have tsunami buoys? Hate to be caught off guard enjoying a carribean beach with my wife and children when one of those bad boys comes crashing through. I'll bet there are a whole lot of survivors that don't take tsunami's lightly anymore. I would imagine that if there isn't a warning system in place, there's plans for one, given the number of tourists that visit carribean islands each year. davidaperryman Posted February 17, 2005 #4 Share Posted February 17, 2005 If you are on the beach and you see the water receding way out into the ocean, run like hell because it is going to come back in a big way.

Big ones just aren't very common.
PSCruiser Posted February 18, 2005 #6 Share Posted February 18, 2005 I read an article recently that said that in deep water, the terrible tsunami of a few months back was no more than a 3 foot swell, traveling at high speed. You would never even notice it. The trouble starts when it gets into shallow areas.
