Costa Tropicale now P&O Pacific Star

We sailed the Costa Tropicale last summer on a 5-night sailing from Venice. The ship had just recently been completely refurbished in the conversion from the Carnival Tropicale to Costa Tropicale. The refurbishement was well done.

We had a LOT of fun on the ship! However, the fun more had to do with the staff on board and the other passengers on board. I doubt that you will have the same crew and you definitely won't have the same passengers. The entertainment staff, which Costa calls the "animation team", were a great bunch and knew how to get the passengers involved. Likewise, the ship was nearly all Europeans and most of them were Italian. All I can say is, Italians know how to party! So as you can see, neither of these will convert to the ship operating under P&O Australia.

But the ship has a good layout with many of the public facilites grouped together. The gift shop is very small; the liquor store more of a closet than a store. The casino is a good size, as is the dining room. I felt the cabins were also quite nice. As I mentioned, it was well-refurbished and I'm sure P&O will do a few things too.

So have a great cruise; I'm sure you'll like it. Australia is quickly becoming a hot new cruising market and you'll see bigger and bigger ships sailing from there as the growth continues.

Painter - I too am looking for info on the Pacific Star (Costa Tropicale). I am sure she will do well here in Australia. We are doing a cruise from Brisbane to Fiji, Noumea, Vanuata and return to Brisbane. There will be 4 of us - celebrating our 40ths. I am a bit concerned she is a small ship at approx 36,000 tonnes having been on bigger ships like Golden Princess, Superstar Leo, Norwegian Sun, Ocean Princess. I am glad she has had a refit done and I hear it's very european look and feel.

BobK - fyi, I posted a message on your other thread - asking similiar questions.

Looking forward to seeing more posts....
