Opening of Rio de Janeiro cruise season

My dear fellows,

today (Oct. 07) the first cruise ship (MSC Armonia) arrived in Rio de Janeiro port. According to a local newspaper, during this season 255 arrives are expected with 800 thousand tourists.

I will do my best to take as much pictures as I can and post in the Photo Gallery.

The summer 2011 (winter in the north hemisphere) cruise season in Rio de Janeiro has come to the end with the last sailing departure on April 22. According to the port authorities, from October 2010 to April 2011, 251 moorings has being recorded.

The season has also ended for Santos port in which there were 310 moorings as per the local port authorities.

 

The following link you can find all ships/cruise lines in Santos port as well as in Rio de Janeiro port.

 

It should be pointed out that cruising is getting very popular among the Brazilians based on the currency strengh and economy growth.

2011-2012 cruise season at Rio de Janeiro started on October 28, 2011. It is expected that 37 ships will dock at Rio de Janeiro up to May 20, 2012 when the last cruise leave the port. For the New Years eve. fireworks at Copacabana beach 9 ships will be alongside.

 

The following link lists the ships and dates at Pier Maua one of Rio port area. There is also another area right close to Pier Maua in which some other cruise also stop.

 

It is in portuguese but you may find your cruise in one of the two lists.

Just seen the New Year fireworks in Rio (on TV news), looked fab-u-lous. Our daughter is out there for real for New Year, looking forward to what she has to say about it.
