Daffydilly Posted February 19, 2005 #1 Share Posted February 19, 2005 We'll be on POA in late April. I love seeing tropical vegetation and birds, but like to avoid uphill climbing. There are shore excursions offered to Allerton Gardens, the National Tropical Botanical Gardens, and to Paradise Gardens. If previous cruisers can relate their experiences in any or all of these locations, your advice would be appreciated.
Happy ks Posted February 19, 2005 #2 Share Posted February 19, 2005 But, I bet you could find an answer if you go to the Ports of Call board and click on Hawaii. There are several locals, as well as many who travel to Hawaii who may be able to give you your answer. Have a fun cruise!
spleen93 Posted February 19, 2005 #3 Share Posted February 19, 2005 Which islands are these excursions offered on? I'm not familiar off the top of my head with these names. On Maui, Maui Tropical Plantation is an easy walk - offers a train/trolley ride through the plantation to see the various types of plants (sort of touristy too overall but still a good chance to see stuff in a concentrated area - http://www.mauitropicalplantation.com/). i've also heard good things about Maui Botanical Gardens (http://www.mauigardenofeden.com/) though I haven't been there myself. On Oahu, a visit to Foster Gardens (http://www.co.honolulu.hi.us/parks/hbg/fbg.htm) or Lyon Arboretum (http://www.hawaii.edu/lyonarboretum/virtual_walk/main.html) might be nice. Remember that I haven't been to either of these locations since grade school days and field trips so I haven't seen what they look like now. Just did a Google search - found this: http://ntbg.org/tours.html for National Tropical Botanical Gardens. Seems like Allerton Gardens is part of it. Stil can't find anything on Paradise Gardens.
