Male couple on Celebrity Millenium a problem ?

Hello to all of you,

we (thats my partner Jens and I, Michael) will be sailing on the Celebrity Millenium on January 2nd 2011 out of San Juan in Sky Suite 6145 and we are worried to be looked at or handled differently because of being a male couple. Do I have to worry about this or not ? We would like to receive the same respect and treatment a heterosexual couple will receive in the Suite and on the cruise ship in general........best wishes from Michael and Jens in Germany

I have never seen a problem like that on any of the cruise lines I have been on. I understand that I am not gay so perhaps I might not pick up on it like a gay person may but I have never seen couples of any sex - same or otherwise - treated any differently on Celebrity, Royal, Princess, Carnival, Norwegian, etc.

Hi, first of all I don't know if you have cruised before, but we have never experienced anything but first class service from everyone on board, no matter which crulse line we have sailed on.

Celebrity has a reputation of having a slightly more sophisticated cruise demographic as far as passengers are concerned, and not only have we had a wonderful experience on all of our X cruises but there are also a large number of GLBT cruisers so you shouldn't have any problem finding like minded cruisers.

Also, please don't forget that your cruise dollar/euro is as important as anyone else's and the crew are well aware of this.

Hope this helps you to look forward to what will be a wonderful experience.

We sailed on the Millennium last January and had a great time.

My partner and I have been on over 50 cruises and NEVER had a problem. Be sure to ask you travel agent to have your beds put together and if not when you see your suite attendent, ask him or her to do so, no problem. Enjoy your cruise and just be your self.

We've been on Celebrity. We've danced, we've had our formal pictures taken together, we've had a blast. We have never had an even slightly negative reaction to our being gay. We've been on Carnival, NCL, RCL, HAL and Princess and have never had a bad reaction.

I'll be on the Constellation next month with my buddy, and until know we've never noticed any problems when cruising RCL and NCL or even some Finnish companies. I must admit we're not too social or showing ourselves as a couple, but we've never felt uncomfortable. Also the crew has been welcoming, especially the Finnish captains on NCL have been happy to see customers from their country.

Will you be having Select Dining or Traditional? On our first RCL cruise we had traditional (because that was the only possibility at that time) and had a very nice table of 8 with couples from Australia, NZ and NY. We'll be having Select Dining this time since the Med cruise we're taking is very port intensive.

My partner and I sailed on Millenium this past April out of San Juan and had a wonderful time. The crew was great, but the bar tender in the martini bar and our steward could not have been nicer or more accomodating. We meet several other gay couples on the cruise and are going on a transatlantic with them next month.

Have fun and enjoy your cruise

My partner (Tom) and I have traveled a lot together over the past 30 years and have never had a problem on the cruise ships (or anywhere else for that matter). The crews on the ships are wonderful. We've never had any issues with fellow passengers either.

We always get out beds together and no one ever flinched.

By the way in case you have never stayed in the Sky Suite, you will definately enjoy it from all the reviews I've read on Cruise Critic. Particularly you will enjoy having a butler - again - great reviews from those posting on Cruise Critic.

You will have a tremendous holiday. Enjoy!!!

Michael,

We are on the Millenium with you and your partner in January! This is our 8th Celebrity cruise - we have had only the best interactions with our straight dinner companions and there have been a lot of gay crew members too - I think Celebrity recognizes us as premium customers and wants our business!

My partner and I traveled on the Millenium to Alaska as a couple and it was a fantastic experience. Everyone is treated the same. We are in the process of booking a trip on the Infinity (back to Alaska) for June 2011 we enjoyed it so much. We had out pictures taken as well....I think they've seen it all before. They even had a "Friends of Dorothy" get together in Michael's Lounge. We did not go...(they were singing show tunes)...which was too over the top for me!

Hello Richard,

good to hear we won't be the only gay people on board. We have been on some cruises before and never had problems so I am sure we will receive the same treatment we deserve and paid for. We are very much looking forward to this cruise. Where are you and your partner from ? Maybe we should meet on the ship for a drink or so......would be fun.....greetings from Michael and Jens

We live on St Croix - our first port of call - been here for 23 years, before that 11 years in Boston. Yes that makes us old farts - I'm 53 ( will be 54 on Three King's Day in Dominica ) John is a young 66. Looking forward to meeting you and Jens and if you need info on St Croix just ask! I just responded to a post on the Gay and Lesbian Pages today - look it up and signup and maybe we can get more interested in getting together!

First off, you will have no problems on the Millie. The crew will love you and embrace you.

-Friends of Dorothy meetings are social hours for GLBT travellers. If it is not on the first day program, go to the front desk and ask for it. Celebrity allows their cruise directors discretion in adding the event to the calendar. We had over 30 folks at our meetings on Millie in 2007.

-Dress up on the first formal night! By all means show people that you have style and class. The guests with that same style and class will embrace having their gay friends on board. PLUS "all the single ladies" will want you to be their escort (believe me, we had numerous requests!).

-"above all else, be nice" Your mom said, so do it. Just be nice. Do not think people have negative reaction to a gay couple. Most folks on a cruise simply don't care. They are on vacation. Now if you start talking politics and demanding marriage at your first meeting.. you might have a negative reaction.

-If you are not on an all-gay ship, don't turn it into a cruise-a-polloza. Just because a guy or woman is handsome or beautiful, he/she does not necessarily want nor desire your sexual advances. If you want a cruise where you look for action ... go on an RSVP trip. I've been on cruises where other gay passengers have been overtly sexual and it turns off so many people. Don't screw it up for others (remember, "above all else..."

-the performers are not all gay! futhermore, they are actors. they can be anything you think they are. So don't assume. Treat them nicely, but don't assume that they are gay. (They really hate this, but as folks in the arts, they get it all the time).

-take a good supply of business cards and keep in touch with your cruise friends...gay or straight. A straight couple we met years ago has called us because their son is coming out. You can be a positive influence in small ways.

-HAVE FUN! You may not be on the "fun ship" but have a great time!

Happy sailings,

Doug

Hi There,

My partner and I along with a friend and are doing the Trans Atlantic out of Rome on the 31 of Oct. We have sailed on Celebrity many times and have always been very well treated. We do not make our sexuality an issue nor do we broadcast that we are gay when cruising or at any other time for that matter and no one else has ever made it an issue either. We socialize with gay and straight people a like. We behave like gentlemen and are treated as such. I would seriously doubt that you and your partner will have any problems at all.

I would just make one suggestion. Do not post your cabin number on the boards. Our attitude is, if we want someone in our cabin we will invite them. It's just a security thing. just because someone is on a cruise it doesn't mean they have the best of intentions.
