Ship tours whilst in port

Hi we are just planning our next cruise for Jan 2011. We did IOS Sept 09 and fancy Ventura but have doubts (cabin size for 4, size of gym). Does anyone know if you are able to have a quick look on board when the ship is next in Southampton? Notice there are some websites that do tours for a fee? Any recommendations as I would love to try before I buy (or be nosey!!) ;) Thanks

hiya,

would be a great idea, and something we have previously asked, but dont think there is any chance whilst in port.

i think alot has to do with the high secruty that surrounds the ships these days.

They do have occasional open days i think, but these are by invite only, and not sure how you get these. often reserved for travel agents etc, that are promoting P&O, as my sister in law has had invites, but then she is a cruise specialist in a T/A.

You CAN have a conducted tour, but it is more to do with 'Who you know' rather than what you know. Write to PandO and tell them what you would wish to do and don't hold your breath. However, if you 'know someone' who can arrange it for you :rolleyes:

It's the same with visits to the Bridge and below decks

Word your request carefully .............;)

I had an email off P&O offering me to visit any of there ships, Think it was just £20pp and a meal in the restaurant was included, Only had 1 date for each ship, This was a while ago, even before i sailed with P&O. Wish i did it now

You need to ring P&O and ask if they have any dates comeing up, i think its the advirtising deparment you need to speak to.

I did the same thing prior to booking our cruise and P&O said about the invite thing and then said if you hadnt cruised with them before you could go. However when I called there were no dates available so we had to make do with seeing Azura leave Southampton. No chance of getting on though.

To answer your question; there is no way you can get a ship visit now before Jan 2011.

You can't have a 'quick lookonboard' when the ship is next in Southampton with out a pre-arranged invite.

I have been on a couple of ships visits, including IOS, and have been on Ventura, the gym is a very good size and filled with new equipment, the cabins are roughly the same size as IOS. Obviously IOS is bigger and has the rock climbing wall and Ice skating rink which Ventura doesn't have, but Ventura is a very nice ship for children, and if my kids were small thats the P&O ship I would choose.

Invites, are sent out, as Sammydo says by invite only and are not transferrable. They are for set dates in the year, usually one or two dates per ship only.

Sometimes your travel agent may be able to get you one, its worth asking, if you don't ask you won't get....
