sy1692 Posted February 20, 2005 #1 Share Posted February 20, 2005 I read somewhere that the porters are not hired by Carnival. My question is has anyone taken all of their luggage personally to their room? I am just concerned to give my luggage to a porter and then be with out during the trip. mikesteg Posted February 20, 2005 #2 Share Posted February 20, 2005 Your luggage would have to fit though the x-ray machine (standard airport style) if you wanted to hand carry it. Though I'm not wildly comfortable with Carnival's proactive cries of "we're not responsible", if you read the contract this applies to almost everything you touch, do, or see on the whole voyage. Galveston must embark 6 or 7 thousand people a week and I've never heard of a problem during embarkation. I'm sure they must have had one or two though... anybody? You can also drop the luggage directly at the luggage reception just inside the building, which is all the porters do anyway. Its really quite a scam from the perspective of $1-a-bag (tip) to move your luggage all of 50 feet. This really doesn't buy you much from a security presepctive, but if you want to do that just watch where the porters are taking the luggage and that will be the spot. As always, don't pack your meds in checked bags, or electronics/valuables, and spread everybody's clothes among the bags so if a bag does get lost you don't lose all on one person's clothing. ;)
springtxbill Posted February 21, 2005 #3 Share Posted February 21, 2005 The porters at all ports only load the luggage onto the luggage cart racks and I believ even another set of port workers push the carts to the ship where the ship's crew takes over the luggage handling.:)
