livorno/florence train service

I am confused about the train service between the port and Florence. Ive seen posts/websites for "raileurope.com" and "trenitalia.com". Are these the same trains just different websites selling tickets? We will be in port on November 9th, does it make sense to pre-purchase train tickets?

Any help would be appreciated.

RailEurope is a company that sells the Trenitalia (official Itaian railways) tickets. Livorno to Florence is regional trains only and you cannot pre-purchase tickets. Doesn't make sense to as if you could/did and your ship missed port because of weather you'd be stuck with virtually non-refundable tickets.

There is no need to prepurchase tickets for Livorno to Florence, in fact it could work against you if you can't get to the station in time. The only challenge in Livorno is getting to and from the train station to the ship. We took a taxi to the station and the bus back to the ship. Be sure to be prepared to do the bus as upon your return the taxis maybe scarce, they were for us.
