JMS920 Posted November 2, 2010 #51 Share Posted November 2, 2010 I would have been thrilled with Catalina Island, but we love beautiful beaches. That's what we look for when we cruise. I had been looking forward to DR when we booked but my daughter and her husband spent 12 days there at a beautiful resort. They had 3 instances where locals put them and their baby (6 months old at the time) in dangerous situations. One of these was from a security guard at the resort they stayed in. When my SIL reported him it was totally brushed aside. My SIL is from Honduras and speaks Spanish fluently so there was no misunderstandings either. They couldn't wait to come home and will never go back. This all put a sour taste in my mouth.

gargoyle999 Posted November 2, 2010 #53 Share Posted November 2, 2010 It's a Costa facility... HMC is actually Holland America's property... So Catalina is a private island? Not that there won't be 1000 cruise ship people there making it crowded. But just trying to decide what to do in the DR as it has been the most difficult port to find something. frazzledrazzle16 Posted November 2, 2010 #55 Share Posted November 2, 2010 From what I can see, Catalina Island is far prettier than the one on the west coast!!! :) Mach-- That was the beach we went to on our first cruise! Pictures don't do it justice... it was amazing!!!
jandjfun Posted November 3, 2010 #56 Share Posted November 3, 2010 Mach-- That was the beach we went to on our first cruise! Pictures don't do it justice... it was amazing!!! It is so pretty! To bad the Carnival excursion is so short! I wonder if there is a longer private tour to Catalina.
uffdafla Posted November 4, 2010 #57 Share Posted November 4, 2010 Ya' know, we constantly see people asking for new ports, new excursion and such. I KNOW that the folks in Miami are making an effort to expand the offerings and at some point you see this... The change has to happen eventually and someone is gonna be upset. I wish it could be otherwise but that's not the case... From what I can see, Catalina Island is far prettier than the one on the west coast!!! :) Host Mach, love the picture. It looks just like Saona Island, just off of La Romana. Was there 10,21,2010 Miracle. Our excursion took fourty lucky people by speed boat.
