We are looking for fun (preferably affordable) port activities to do with our kids, who are almost 5 and 6. In December, we will be on the Norwegian Pearl in the following ports:

Samana

Tortola

St. Thomas

Thanks for your help!

Last year when we were in St. Thomas, we went to Blackbeard's Castle. Our 2 oldest grandchildren (1 boy and 1 girl) had just turned 6 and 7. If they had been with us, we would have spent all day there. As it was, we spent 1/2 the day there, just taking pictures to show the grandkids. The taxi driver tried to talk us out of it..."there's nothing there...waste of time..."

If I hadn't seen pictures on the internet, we would have given up and not gone (he just didn't want to go because it was only $1 more than downtown--when we got downtown, he paid someone else $2 to take us up there--I don't blame him, but it was irritating).

Anyway, if your kids are interested in pirates (we have the large playmobile pirate ship at home, and it is their favorite toy--had to buy a 2nd because now the younger 2 want to play at the same time)...they will love it.

Note that the reviews are mixed--it's not for everyone!

Their site doesn't seem to be working tonight, so I can't check to see if there are children's rates. We had to pay $12/adult to enter.

We did St Thomas in Feb 2008 with our son who was 8 and twin daughters who were 5, we got off the boat and got a taxi and spent the morning at Megan's Bay - it was beautiful - great for the kids - 2 turtles swam by us really close to the shore and lots of iguanas for the kids to look at.

We went back to the ship for lunch and then went up the cable car in the afternoon and watched the parrot show - which the kids loved - St Thomas is still one of their favourite islands.

We are doing a cruise again in Feb 2011 but sadly St Thomas is not a place we will be visiting!

We are going to Tortola in Feb this port is on our itinerary - we were scheduled to stop there on our 1st cruise but RCI cancelled the port and we were booked to do the dolphin experience so as soon as the kids heard it was on the itinerary they've asked to do the dolphin encounter!
