Just remember to carry lots of small bills. Some of the shops and vendors will give you change in Jamaican dollars and they may not have correct change for larger bills. And, you don't want to go home with a lot of J$$.

  • 2 weeks later...

Bought one bottle of bottled water when we did the Caverns and Dunns falls at the Caverns.

The only thing I had was a 10 dollar bill.

I got back 9 Jamaican coins. That was the most expensive bottle of water. Really don't know how much I paid, but at the time with the poverty and such, I considered it my contribution to them.

I have 9 coins as souveniers.

Safe travels.

Hey all,

Yes you can use $US almost everywhere in the tourist areas but there are two things to consider:

1. That you may get your change back in $JA

2. The exchange rate used wont usually be the most competitive, but certainly worth it for convenience.

Bring small bills for tipping, taxis etc!!

Have fun!!:D
