SWACK Posted November 1, 2010 #1 Share Posted November 1, 2010 A Puerto Rican friend of us used to make these fantastic "Meat Pies", they were spiced meat encased in a yellowish pie crust and fried or baked? Have you had these in San Jaun, what is the local name for them? Also get a sandwich with pork, salami and onion and pickle called a "Cuban' here.. but hear they have them in PR as well... Hal you will not find the baked jamaican patties here in Puerto Rico. the empanadillas can look light yellowish also and it is correct that in some areas it is called pastelillo instead of empanadilla and if the cut is squared is called taco
SWACK Posted November 3, 2010 Author #6 Share Posted November 3, 2010 I have had Jamaican meat pies, and they are good, but different then what I got from my friend. These were about the same size, much more of a 1/2 circle, and almost a pie crust. So anyways.. are these offered as street food, or something I could find in a restaurant? Any suggestions in OSJ to get a few?
rainforestgirl Posted November 3, 2010 #7 Share Posted November 3, 2010 That is more casual fare here, so it is not in many restaurants. But it is possible to find if as an appetizer at some places. The is usually a grease truck by Plaza Darsenas (to the left of the pier at the curve in the road) that has them.
