Princess to town for shopping

I will be on the Caribbean Princess from 8am-6pm. I was planning on going to St John's for the day. I hope to be back to St Thomas on the 3pm ferry- so say around 3:30pm. I want to stop back at the ship to drop off beach stuff/snorkel gear. But it is very important I have time to stock up on rum.

I hear this ship docks outside of town. Will I still have time to go rum shopping? How much is the taxi from the ship to shopping? Or are there any cheap liquor stores by the cruise ship?

Suggestions?

If you are docking at Havensight, you will be able to buy your liquor there. Lots of other shops there, too, mostly the same as what is downtown. If you have time to go downtown, then by all means do it, but if you end up being pushed for time do your shopping at the pier.

Caribbean Princess docks at Crown Bay. There are a few shops right at the dock. There is a Pueblo grocery store fairly close for cheap rum, or Gourmet Gallery which is even even closer. If you are going to St John, you will pass by lots of shopping on your way "back to the ship."
